The Red Devils enter their latest top-flight encounter on the back of nine consecutive wins in all competitions and five fixtures unbeaten against the Reds.

Mourinho’s men will take to Old Trafford at 6/5 with Coral to secure another fixture success, while the visitors are 12/5 to salvage a draw.

With each Premier League match-up between these two sides usually producing plenty of fireworks, Coral look back at five memorable Man Utd v Liverpool moments from this fiercely contested fixture as a potentially thrilling Sunday clash looms large…

Cantona’s comeback from Kung-Fu kick (1995)

Cantona famously returned to aid Man Utd against Liverpool, following his Kung-Fu kick suspension.

Following an eight-month ban for his infamous Kung-Fu kick at Selhurst Park, French forward Eric Cantona returned to action for Man Utd in 1995 and made an instant impact in a heated affair with Liverpool.

The iconic Old Trafford hitman provided the decisive pass for Nicky Butt to open the scoring inside the opening minute, before going on to slot home from the penalty spot to have the final say and enjoy a successful comeback in an eventual 2-2 stalemate.

Cantona’s subsequent celebration when swinging around a pole behind the goal posts is still a memorable image from that encounter over two decades ago.

Berbatov blasts in treble (2010)

Berbatov was unstoppable as he hit a hat-trick in this fixture in 2010, including a sensational overhead kick.

Dimitar Berbatov’s Red Devils debut saw him taste defeat at the hands of Liverpool, but the Bulgarian striker hit back in the 2010/11 campaign when hitting a sublime fixture hat-trick at Old Trafford – becoming the first Man Utd player to net three past the Merseysiders for 64 years.

The mercurial marksman ultimately ended that season with the Golden Boot, sharing it with then Manchester City forward and former teammate Carlos Tevez, but it was his treble against the Reds that stood above all in a 3-2 victory.

Berbatov fired his side in front with an early double and dispatched a thumping header to secure all three points, though it was his second and magical overhead kick that lives longest in the memory of fans – a goal which you can relive below.

Kuyt’s close-range hat-trick (2011)

Another trio of strikes feature in our memorable Man Utd v Liverpool moments, this time from former Liverpool work horse Dirk Kuyt. The Dutchman was an unlikely hat-trick hero back in 2011 as he fired Kenny Dalglish’s men to victory during the latter’s second spell in charge of the club.

Luis Suarez was the catalyst for all of Kuyt’s goals at Anfield in a 3-1 success, as they handed Sir Alex Ferguson’s Red Devils a blip in their quest for the Premier League title. Although, the defeated visitors did go on to clinch top-flight supremacy that term.

Gerrard kisses camera at Old Trafford (2014)

Man Utd fans won’t hold many fond memories of David Moyes’ torrid time in charge of the club, and his team’s underwhelming display in a 3-0 loss to Liverpool in 2014 stands out as one of the most disappointing.

Then Reds skipper Gerrard successfully converted from the spot twice, planting a kiss on a nearby camera to seal a famous celebration, before Suarez capped off a comfortable 3-0 triumph.

Gerrard swiftly sent off (2015)

As well as the highs in this fierce fixture, Gerrard also endured disappointing moments, most notably his swift dismissal in 2015.

As well as the highs in this fierce fixture, Gerrard also endured disappointing moments, most notably his swift dismissal in 2015.

As well as experiencing plenty of highs in previous meetings with Man Utd during his long-standing career for Liverpool, Gerrard also faced an abundance of poor performances and results, most memorably his swift dismissal.

The now retired midfielder was introduced for the second-half in his last ever outing against his long-standing rivals by then boss Brendan Rodgers, but was incredibly given his marching orders just 38 seconds into his appearance for a stupid stamp on Ander Herrera.

Brazilian football legend Pele, who made an appearance during half-time to wave to fans, was actually on the pitch longer than Gerrard.
