Christmas Premier League club manager wishlists

We look at the best bets available on the box

Armchair fans strap themselves in for another jam-packed football schedule this weekend. We all love live football, it takes the edge of Saturday night TV, but we love a winning bet more, much more.

Your friends at Coral have picked out the best of Saturday’s games on the box, and offer our opinion on where the smart money goes on each. As always, the prices mentioned are correct at the time of writing. Enjoy!

Man City v Tottenham

There’s no doubt about top of the bill on Saturday and it’s at the Etihad, where a wounded Man City take on a Spurs side who believe they can win the league. It has all the ingredients for a cracker.

We’ve taken an in-depth look at this one elsewhere on the site, and you can read that here, but if you want the condensed version, stick with this. Spurs have beaten City in each of their last three meetings, including a 2-0 win at the lane back in October. The Citizens have scored in every home match so far this season however, in all competitions, while Spurs have netted at least two goals in each of their last seven starts. Both teams to score looks the shrewd option at Coral’s 4/6.

Liverpool v Swansea

After managing just a point last time with Manchester United, despite taking the lead, Liverpool could ask for few better visitors than Swansea when aiming to get back to winning ways.

The Welsh side are rock-bottom of the league, and have the most generous defence in the top-flight by a comfortable margin. Size that up with Liverpool’s goal-scoring form, 19 in their last 10 starts, and we have a strong bet on our hands. The fact Swansea haven’t won at Anfield since 2012 only helps. Backing the locals in the half time/full time market pays 3/4 when playing with Coral.

Rangers v Motherwell

An all-Premiership clash in the Scottish Cup and we are in for a decent game of football, with both sides returning from the winter break, rested, refreshed and ready to win this famous old trophy.

The Bears have been far from convincing this season, but they have a fantastic record at Ibrox and have added Premier League duo Emerson Hyndman from Bournemouth and Arsenal’s Jon Toral on-loan until the end of the season. Manager Mark Warburton expects big things of his newbies at this level, and fans will be hoping they can add a bit of creativity to the midfield. A home win is 4/11, but I prefer Toral to score on his debut at 19/10.

Barnsley v Leeds

Two sides aiming to be involved in the play-offs come the end of the season clash on Saturday evening at Oakwell in Barnsley and Leeds United. It’s shaping up to be another enthralling contest from English football’s second-tier.

Leeds took the bragging rights when these sides last went head-to-head back in October, thanks to goals from Bartley and Hernandez. The Peacocks enter unbeaten in their last half-dozen, five wins and a draw, while The Tykes had no answer for a decent Fulham side, going down 2-0. Leeds pop up at 6/5.

Villarreal v Valencia

Casting our eye across to what is shaping up to be an ultra-competitive La Liga and Villarreal can boost their chances of a top-four finish with victory over lowly Valencia, who look completely out of sorts at the minute.

Los Che travel for this match with just two wins in their last 10 outings, conceding 19-goals during that miserable run. The locals have fared much better so far and set-up unbeaten in five, including a 1-1 draw with Barca on their penultimate start. The home win at 20/23 shapes as a decent pick.
