Amir Khan fighting to save career amidst sex tape scandal

With fans chasing a super-fight between Khan and Brook, we check how this controversy could affect that
Amir Khan hit the headlines this week, but for all the wrong reasons as a leaked sex tape threatened to ruin his marriage, and possibly his career. The recorded Skype call, thought to be between himself and a US model, was said to have occurred just weeks after his 2013 wedding to Faryal Makhdoom. Cheeky boy!

Those who watched the footage certainly saw more than they bargained for, but we’ve not witnessed much of the 30-year-old Bolton puncher in the boxing ring of late, with his last outing that famous failed gamble against Saul Alvarez in Vegas which saw the Brit knocked out inside six rounds. That was the fourth defeat of King Khan’s career, and third by KO/TKO.
Since that unforgettable night against Breidis Prescott back in 2008, Amir has achieved much in the game, including winning a WBA super-lightweight title and a WBC silver welterweight strap, but he has struggled to settle with trainers and those question marks over his punch-resistance are growing.

Brook’s hopping mad
As Amir Khan gets found sparring with all the wrong opponents, Kell Brook is looking to pick up the pieces of his career after being pummelled into a fifth round submission at the 02 Arena by Gennady Golovkin back in the summer.
Moving up to midweight, in a roll of the dice surely only for the money, IBF world welterweight champ Brook boxed clever in the opening rounds, but it was obvious to all in attendance, and those watching at home, that it was a matter of time before GGG walked the Sheffield fighter down and got him out of there. That’s exactly what happened, with Brook’s corner stopping the bout due to a nasty injury, which turned out to be a broke eye socket.
30-year-old Special K made a bold statement in the press recently, telling all who would listen to forget his weight issues, after moving up to middle, as he would cut a leg off to make weight and fight Amir Khan. As a fighter myself, it’s certainly not a tactic I would encourage, and I’ve not seen too many one-legged boxers in my time.
Holding nothing back, Brook explained to the scribes that his career would feel unfulfilled if he was to miss out on a box office smash with Khan, and that squashes any remaining ideas that he didn’t want, or need, the fight with Khan.
Khan and Brook will happen
So, Kell Brook wants it and could make the weight. It now looks like Amir Khan needs it to regain any shred of respectability after being caught indulging in some unorthodox keep-fit activities. I predict we’ll see these two sharing a ring soon. Boxing is truly a crazy old sport, but don’t we just love it.
