Coral ambassador Alan Shearer sat down with our very own Nicola McGeady to exclusively share his thoughts on the upcoming West Bromwich Albion v Manchester United clash on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils are aiming to catch those further ahead of them and remain in the race for a top four position and Champions League place under Jose Mourinho.

You can listen to Shearer’s thoughts on the match and top four race in the video below, but we’ve also picked out the best quotes from this latest interview…

“I think they will have enough class to beat West Brom still”

With West Brom in fine form of late under the guidance of Tony Pulis, Alan was asked if he thinks Man Utd will be capable of ending their run and gaining three points.

“I think they will have enough class to beat West Brom still. Because of the way United are starting to play, the way they are building up confidence and having belief in themselves, as well as their belief in their manager,” said Shearer.

“They can definitely finish inside the top four”

Following a slow start to the campaign, Mourinho’s men are only recently finding their feet and playing with a new-found confidence domestically, while the performances of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been a huge boost.

Questioned over their top four ambitions, Alan believes the Red Devils can still challenge for a Champions League place this season, as they continue to gain improved results.

“I wouldn’t completely rule it out getting into the top four, if you’re looking at the teams around them, they are starting to get results now,” outlined the former Newcastle United striker.

“Pogba and Ibrahimovic are starting to click and starting to find each other for goals, and it was one of Pogba’s best performances against Crystal Palace, scoring one and setting one up for Ibrahimovic.

“So yes they can definitely finish inside the top four. But no, I don’t think they’ll win the league, I think that’s asking too much this season, but they could finish in the top four.”

Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer played his entire career at the top level of English football, winning the Premier League title with Blackburn in 1994-95. The following summer he signed for his hometown club, Newcastle United, for a then world record £15 million fee.

He ended his playing career with a record 260 Premier League goals, which still stands today. He also won 63 caps for England, including 34 as captain, and among his 30 international goals were five scored at Euro 96, a total that won him the Golden Boot at that tournament.

Now the chief pundit on Match Of The Day, Alan was one of the first two players inducted into the Premier League Hall Of Fame this year.
