Coral ambassador Alan Shearer sat down with our very own Simon Clare to exclusively share his thoughts on the upcoming Manchester City v Chelsea clash on Saturday lunchtime.

The two clubs are separated by just a point, with the table-topping Blues holding slight advantage over third-placed City, so it is certainly set up to be an intriguing affair at the Etihad.

You can listen to Shearer’s thoughts on the match in the video below, but we’ve also picked out the best quotes from this latest interview…

“It’s a mouthwatering prospect”

“I can’t wait for it, it should be a fantastic game,” Shearer said. “[They are] two very good sides; two sides who play very differently, [with] different systems.

“Chelsea, who are flying at the moment, beat Tottenham last weekend after going 1-0 down – the first goal they’ve conceded in seven games,” the Newcastle United legend added. “But I’m going to be watching and be fascinated as to how that back three – or back five – cope with Aguero.

“This I think will be their biggest test, and [Aguero] will I’m pretty sure give them a hard time.”

Shearer reiterated: “It’s a game I’m really looking forward to; Man City are conceding goals. Of course with [Eden] Hazard and [Diego] Costa in fine form again this season, it’s a mouthwatering prospect.”

Alan thinks that Aguero will be a handful for Chelsea.

“It will put a marker down for whoever wins this game”

Prior to the season, Alan predicted that Man City would go on to regain the Premier League title under Pep Guardiola this term, and it seems he’s not changed his mind…

“I said City before a ball was kicked, so I’m going to stick with [them], although it has been impressive from a few teams, it’s going to be so exciting the way it pans out over the coming months,” he said.

“It will put a marker down for whoever wins this game, and it will give them huge confidence and belief that… they can really go on and kick on and try and go and win the Premier League.

“But it is only three points, but it’s a game that will have huge significance in the title race because of the confidence, because of the belief it will give that particular team.”

Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer played his entire career at the top level of English football, winning the Premier League title with Blackburn in 1994-95. The following summer he signed for his hometown club, Newcastle United, for a then world record £15 million fee.

He ended his playing career with a record 260 Premier League goals, which still stands today. He also won 63 caps for England, including 34 as captain, and among his 30 international goals were five scored at Euro 96, a total that won him the Golden Boot at that tournament.

Now the chief pundit on Match Of The Day, Alan was one of the first two players inducted into the Premier League Hall Of Fame this year.
