Triumph Hurdle Trial tips: Defi Du Seuil bets tick boxes

Defi Du Seuil created a huge impression when winning last time out and looks a worthy favourite to follow-up in the JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial for juveniles, which gets proceedings underway on a cracking seven-race Saturday card at Cheltenham (12:05).

The gelding shaped with bags of promise when runner-up on debut in a bumper and duly went one better to open his account with an easy seven-length success at Lyon-Parilly.

Defi Du Seuil was then purchased by leading Irish owner JP McManus and cruised home by five lengths on his debut for trainer Philip Hobbs in a minor contest at Ffos Las.

Connections then pitched the three-year-old into what looked a hot Grade 2 contest around Prestbury Park last month, and he could not have been more impressive in beating Diable De Sivola by 1 3/4 lengths.

Awesome display of speed and power

After racing wide and being held-up in touch by jockey Barry Geraghty, Defi Du Seuil made stealthy headway to join the leader three from home travelling powerfully.

It was then just a question of what he would find when Geraghty pushed the button and, after a good leap at the last, the response was immediate as he let out an inch of rein to let Defi Du Seuil quicken clear.

The son of Voix Du Nord toyed with his rivals to win hard-held; it was a breathtaking performance which suggested he had a huge engine and needing keeping firmly onside.

Defi Du Seuil is currently 14/1 third-favourite with Coral for the 2017 Triumph Hurdle on the back of that victory, so punters can expect him to win this and cement his position at the head of the ante post market for that contest.

Coeur De Lion, Domperignon Du Lys interesting contenders

The promising Coeur De Lion is an alternative to consider among Triumph Hurdle Trial tips.

Coeur De Lion and Domperignon Du Lys are both very promising types who commend plenty of respect in a small, but select five-runner field.

The former was a fair performer on the level who made a winning debut over the obstacles for trainer Alan King when showing a good attitude to rally strongly and beat Forth Bridge by a neck at Wetherby.

Coeur De Lion looks sure to improve for that experience, but he will need to as that form is nowhere near the level achieved by the selection who looks also to have more gears.

In-form Henderson’s Domperignon feared most

Domperignon Du Lys hails from the yard of in-form Lambourn trainer Nicky Henderson, who does extremely well with his juveniles, and could well prove the one to give Defi Du Seuil most to think about.

Seven Barrows handler Nicky Henderson's Domperignon Du Lys is also worthy of consideration among Triumph Hurdle Trial tips.

The gelding won his sole start in a French bumper and looked a smart recruit when making a winning debut over the obstacles for Henderson at Newcastle.

Domperignon Du Lys travelled strongly throughout before coming from off the pace to win with authority by eight lengths for Nietzsche.

The runner-up is no slouch and it was a most taking display which suggested Domperignon Du Lys had a big future.
