“Both teams can’t afford to be beaten”

Hosts Manchester City and travelling team Arsenal have been in hot and cold form over recent matchweeks, so meet having both suffered blips as they strive to stay in touch with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League standings.

Speaking of City’s recent wobble, Shearer said of Pep Guardiola: “I still think he’s shuffling his pack because I don’t think he has a clue what his best team is yet.

“I think they are struggling to understand the manager’s ideas and he is struggling to get the best out of the City players.

“Both teams can’t afford to be beaten on Sunday,” added the ex-striker, as City and the Gunners languish seven and six points behind league leaders Chelsea respectively.

“It’s a hugely important game… it wouldn’t surprise me if it was a draw, but you’re not gonna let me get away with that so I’m going to say an Arsenal win.”

“Against Everton they looked flaky again”

Continuing on with the Arsenal theme, Shearer also told Coral about his views on the Londoners’ title chances…

“What would concern me with Arsenal is one of their new players [Shkodran] Mustafi [is injured]… has been brilliant all season and that’s one of the reasons why they have looked and been much harder to beat.”

“But against Everton they looked flaky again with balls coming into the box,” continued former PL winner Shearer.

“A ball came in from Leighton Baines and [Seamus] Coleman’s there with a free header, no-one around him. For the winner from Ashley Williams, ball from a corner, no-one around him, now that hasn’t happened with Mustafi in the team and that would be a concern for Arsene Wenger I’m pretty sure.”

“They can’t afford to have two defeats on the spin,” finished Coral’s ambassador. Man City and Arsenal duel at 16:00 GM on Sunday, December 18th.
