Chelsea look a good thing for Premier League title

Blues were tipped up two months ago to land PL crown

Back in October, I wrote a piece stating that Chelsea fans can have faith Antonio Conte would bring the good times back to Stamford Bridge… and it looks as though I was right!

Fast forward two months and the Blues have gone from 13/2* slight outsiders to 5/6* favourites to land their second title in three seasons as they sit six points clear at the head of the table – you were warned!

Below, we take a look at why things are going so well for the Blues…

Deadly striker

Chelsea's Diego Costa celebrates scoring his side's second goal during the Premier League match at St Mary's Stadium, Southampton.

Chelsea’s Diego Costa has looked back to his best this season.

One of the main areas this has been attributed to is Diego Costa’s scoring form, with the Brazilian-born Spain international now sitting joint top of the scoring charts and is the 13/10* favourite (from 10/3* second favourite) to land the Golden Boot at the end of the season.

Sergio Aguero’s ban has affected those odds slightly also, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that 28 year old Costa is in fine scoring form and looks back to his best under the stewardship of Italian mastermind Conte.

Midfield maestro

Will Chelsea make a move for Burnley talent Keane?

Kante (left) has shored up the Chelsea midfield since arriving from Liecester.

N’golo Kante made the summer switch to west London after playing an instrumental part in Leicester City’s shock maiden title win last season and he’s on course to equal a Premier League record.

Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer became the first player in Premier League history to win back-to-back titles for different clubs after he transferred to the Foxes from, you guessed it, Chelsea, and now Frenchman Kante has the chance to mirror that achievement having gone the other way.

Title challengers look vulnerable

Why Liverpool won’t win the Premier League

The Reds are formidable in attack, but lack defensive discipline

A key contributor to Chelsea’s domestic dominance has been that all of their direct competitors have faltered at some point in recent weeks.

Liverpool were looking strong, until a shock 4-3 defeat to Bournemouth followed by a clumsy 2-2 draw with West Ham derailed their challenge somewhat. Reds fans will be hopeful that Chelsea hit some bumps in the road themselves, but that’s looking increasingly unlikely as the weeks unfold.

Arsenal hadn’t lost since the opening day of the season up until Tuesday night, when a spirited Everton came back from a goal down to snatch a 2-1 win at Goodison to prevent the Gunners from going three points behind Chelsea.

Then there’s Man City who, after a brilliant start and looking as though they’d stroll to the title, have blown up and managed just one win in their last three league games. The bans to Aguero and Fernandinho have dealt an even further blow and unless they can turn things around, they’ll be scrapping for a top four place at best.

While there are many factors contributing to Chelsea’s rise, there’s one which cannot be taken from them… They’ve been by far the most consistent team in the league. Teaming up a tough defence with a relenting attack and grinding out wins  in tough games are traits which have long been associated with a successful title winning side. Those, along  with a top class manager, are what will see Chelsea through to the end.

So, if you think Chelsea will win the Premier League this season and you STILL haven’t backed them, you’d better get on now before their odds shorten even further…
