NFL week 10 tips

We’re entering crunch time in the 2016 NFL season as teams’ playoff aspirations can be made or broken over the next couple of weeks.

Week 10 of the campaign features a clash of titans from the AFC and NFC in a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX as Seattle Seahawks face off against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium.

Elsewhere, Dallas Cowboys come up against Pittsburgh Steelers in their bid to keep their impressive run of form alive to secure the number one seed in the NFC Conference.

Those two matches and more are among Coral’s top five NFL week 10 tips for this weekend’s action.

Atlanta Falcons @ Philadelphia Eagles

Matt Ryan and Julio Jones make a potent pairing for Falcons.

Matt Ryan and Julio Jones make a potent pairing for Falcons.

The Falcons’ offense is arguably the best in the NFL, with quarterback Matt Ryan operating like a candidate for MVP. Dan Quinn’s men built off their impressive win over Green Bay Packers with a dominating performance over Tampa Bay Buccaneers, claiming a 43-28 victory.

Philadelphia have well and truly come back down to earth following their bright start to the campaign, losing four out of their last five matches. Carson Wentz has showed a great deal of promise, but over the last few weeks has just started to show signs of hitting the rookie wall.

There are not many guarantees in the NFL, but the way the Falcons have been playing with the form of Ryan and wideout Julio Jones, who has five scores to his name this term, expect them to thrive again. Backing the NFC South outfit to win and for Jones to score a touchdown at 2/1 seems a good punt to take.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Carolina Panthers

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith should be back in the fold.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith should be back in the fold.

The Panthers have suffered a serious hangover from their Super Bowl defeat to Denver Broncos. Cam Newton and company have struggled on both sides of the ball, and are propping up the NFC South with their 3-5 record. They have beaten Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams in back-to-back weeks, but the Chiefs will pose bigger problems.

Kansas City have quietly gone about their business this season and are sitting nicely with a 6-2 record in second place in the AFC West. Without starting quarterback Alex Smith the club defeated Jacksonville Jaguars, and with him restored to the line-up this week Andy Reid’s men will be back to almost full strength on offense.

The match will be a tight contest as neither offense is explosive, which is why taking the Chiefs on the spread at +3.0 would be a prudent option given their form this season.

Chicago Bears @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

This will be a battle between two of the worst teams in the NFL, which could yield a lot of points due to the deficiencies on defense for both sides.

The Bears are currently 2-6 in their season, but did stun their NFC North rivals Minnesota Vikings with 20-10 victory in their last outing. However, the problems remain for John Fox’s men and their weaknesses could be exposed by Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston.

Tampa Bay were brutalised by the Falcons in their heavy defeat in their last outing at Raymond James Stadium, but they will get the chance to use their potent offense against the Bears this week. Receiver Mike Evans was outstanding in their loss, although if he produces the same level of form he could well be on the winning side.

Expect a lot of touchdowns to be scored in this one, which is why taking over 45.0 points at 10/11 would be a sensible bet for this contest.

Dallas Cowboys @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Dallas Cowboys have been impressing.

Dallas Cowboys have been impressing.

The Steelers are in dire need of a win after losing three matches on the spin, putting their playoff hopes in jeopardy. Ben Roethlisberger returned after meniscus surgery, but struggled against Baltimore Ravens as his side’s offense had a stuttering afternoon at M and T Bank Stadium.

Pittsburgh need Roethlisberger along with All-Pros Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell to fire against the Cowboys, who are arguably the best team in the NFL at the moment. Jason Garrett’s men are playing inspired football led by rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot with their prowess on offense.

Talk of the return of veteran Tony Romo has been shelved due to Prescott’s fine play, and he could have another big day against the Steelers pass defense, while the offensive line should create plenty of lanes for Elliott to thrive at Heinz Field.

The Steelers need a win, but the Cowboys are playing the better football, which is why backing them to win on the road at 6/5 on the money line is the right bet to take.

Seattle Seahawks @ New England Patriots

New England Patriots v Seattle Seahawks odds feature in our NFL week 10 tips for November 13.

Every NFL fan remembers where they were when Malcolm Butler intercepted Russell Wilson on the one-yard line to win Super Bowl XLIX for the Patriots. The Seahawks were inches away from becoming the first side since New England to win back-to-back crowns, but they were to be denied.

Pete Carroll’s men have the chance to avenge their defeat as they travel to Gillette Stadium fresh off a controversial victory over Buffalo Bills on Monday night. Wilson and tight end Jimmy Graham were in fine form, while their vaunted defense did just enough to hold Tyrod Taylor in check right at the death.

The challenge will be a tough one for Seattle given the way New England are playing at the moment. Tom Brady seems more or less unstoppable with his receiving corps, while running back Dion Lewis’ return adds an extra dimension to their attack.

This will be the first game the Patriots have played since trading away linebacker Jamie Collins, which could offer a glimmer of hope for Carroll’s side if they can keep up with Brady and company.

It could be another nail-biter and the Seahawks have not lost by over 10 points in five seasons, so taking their +6.5 spread could be a wise decision.
