Now on a winning run of seven consecutive races, the eight-year-old gelding continues to lay waste to what few horses dare oppose him. Last time out, Thistlecrack ran out a 3 3/4 lengths victor at Cheltenham, drawing clear twice without having to extend himself.
Tizzard has taken his stable star to Newbury before, with a six-length success in last year’s Long Distance Hurdle, so course form is no problem.
Under Scudamore, Thistlecrack was driven clear in the run-in with a turn of foot that his four race rivals simply couldn’t match.
He then went on to score the Long Walk Hurdle (Ascot), Cleeve Hurdle and World Hurdle (both at Cheltenham) and the Liverpool Stayers Hurdle (Aintree at the Grand National Festival) all in facile fashion.
