Will Liverpool be top of the Premier League at Christmas?

It’s the question that must be on Jurgen Klopp’s mind at the moment – can Liverpool be top of the Premier League at Christmas?

It’s been a case of so far so good for the PL title second-favourites, with the rampant Reds a terrrific 12/5 with Coral to finally taste top-flight glory again.

Inspirational coach Klopp is charged with ending a 27-year top tier trophy drought for the English giants. Every Liverpool fan is acutely aware that they were last best in England way back in 1990, before the modern Premier League era began.

If Klopp and his cohorts are going to break their almost three-decade long jinx, it must surely be this year, with the Merseysiders playing potent football.

Currently standing tall at the summit on 26 points after smashing Watford 6-1 to leapfrog Manchester City and Arsenal and stay ahead of Chelsea, stealing the Christmas crown would go a long way to enhancing Liverpool’s title credentials.

Being atop of the tree at the all-important half-way mark can do wonders for a club’s confidence. And, at the moment the Anfield outfit are in-form and will be seeking to stay in pole position.

It is specifically goals against that have been hurting the Reds ahead of the festive fixture list, with Liverpool having leaked five more than second spot Chelsea.

Klopp is working on his defence though and, if all else fails, the German gaffer has an attacking contingent to compete with any English club. With the most goals grabbed of any PL side, with 30 from 11 games, the Northwest hopefuls are seeking to simply outscore the chasing pack.

Will the Reds be the kings of Christmas then? Their run-in certainly looks favourable. And, once you’re leading the race with only the second-half of term to go, punters will know it is tough for that team to be knocked off their perch.

Liverpool title odds worth a look ahead of Reds run-in

With instrumental puzzle piece James Milner back from an illness, and just a few injuries to fringe players, Liverpool also have a fitness boost ahead of seasonal football festivities.

If all of Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Georginio Wijnaldum can keep off the treatment table over the clustered Christmas fixture list, there looks to be no stopping them.

The Reds have a favourable Christmas fixture list.

The Reds have a favourable Christmas fixture list.

So, it is no surprise the Reds are rated odds-on at 4/6 to land a major trophy this term, with no European commitments to concern themselves with.

Having seen off bogey team Crystal Palace and hammered the Hornets last time out, Liverpool’s PL run-in across November and December until Christmas Day is as follows:

Southampton (A)
Sunderland (H)
Bournemouth (A)
West Ham United (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Everton (A)

There’s only one distraction in what should be a very winnable EFL Cup clash with Leeds United amid that schedule, while a scuffle with Stoke City and titan tussle with title rivals Man City on New Year’s Eve finish off December’s duels. Both are also crucially at home.

So, from that list a Merseyside derby on Monday, December 19th appears the biggest potential roadblock, but the Reds have not lost in that grudge game since 2010.

While, Saints should be another stern test, with Liverpool having poached several of their players, but ultimately the Reds run-in should not see Klopp and co drop many points.

Compare that to City’s schedule, as the Mancunian club must meet Chelsea, Leicester City and Arsenal before their Liverpool liaison, with Champions League duty also in the mix.

While, Arsenal travel to the Etihad, Old Trafford and Goodison Park, having already dropped points in the north London derby. Fourth placed chasers Chelsea, meanwhile, have Tottenham and City to contend with.

So, snatch those 12/5 Liverpool title odds now, as the Reds’ PL run-in seems set to lead them to the top of the tree by Christmas. Can they really be toppled this term?
