Coral sat down with ambassador Alan Shearer to exclusively discuss Leicester City’s dual challenge this term, after an impressive Champions League display.

You can listen to Shearer’s Foxes thoughts in the video below, but we’ve also picked out the best quotes from this latest interview…

“The fun may just continue”

Former Newcastle United striker and Prem winner Shearer has praised Claudio Ranieri’s flying Foxes for their extraordinary European feat: “To have won their [Champions League] group with a game to spare is another great achievement.”

Shearer shares his Leicester dual challenge thoughts.

“They have been superb in the Champions league this season, but obviously very poor in the league by their standards, but it’s been another great achievement and they’ll be thinking to themselves that if they can get a good draw, which is possible as they are top of the group, then why not, the fun may just continue.”

However, there seems to be a disparity between European and league form and Shearer has his ideas why: “It tells you what a great achievement them winning league last year was, the teams they’re coming up against know what they are about now, know what their tactics are.”

“They are new to the Champions League and it’s fresh and all the excitement is still there, so I think that’s the reason why, at the minute it’s probably a little bit dull to play in the Premier League, but they’ve now go to get back to winning games.”

“They are a point or two off relegation, the pressure will now be on them to get some results and they should be able to do that now they are safely in top spot of their group.”

“It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Leicester were to get back to winning ways”

Shearer, the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer, has backed the Foxes to get back on track against their weekend foes: “It’s a tough game, Middlesbrough need the points and without doubt Leicester need them.”

Shearer expects the Foxes to get back to league winning ways against Boro.

“It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Leicester were to get back to winning ways, they can start to focus again on Premier League football and try to do what they did last season, which is sit deep and hit teams on the break and start to score goals. [Jamie] Vardy has to get amongst the goals again.”

Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer played his entire career at the top level of English football, winning the Premier League title with Blackburn in 1994-95. The following summer he signed for his hometown club, Newcastle United, for a then world record £15 million fee.

He ended his playing career with a record 260 Premier League goals, which still stands today. He also won 63 caps for England, including 34 as captain, and among his 30 international goals were five scored at Euro 96, a total that won him the Golden Boot at that tournament.

Now the chief pundit on Match Of The Day, Alan was one of the first two players inducted into the Premier League Hall Of Fame this year.
