A Tom George double features among Coral’s Chepstow bets today, and our horse racing experts also give their Nottingham tips for November 2.

Rocklander holds solid claims on handicap debut at Chepstow

Trainer Tom George has struck form having saddled three winners from his last seven runners and looks to hold leading claims of landing a double on today’s card at Chepstow, courtesy of Rocklander and Some Are Lucky.

Rocklander runs in the 2m handicap hurdle (14:50) and may well have got in lightly at the weights.

The gelding had some fair form in Ireland, including when an 11 1/4 length third of 17 to the 137-rated Royal Caviar at Thurles.
Haymount, who finished second, is now rater 131 and the fourth home Crown Of Gold has won since to be rated 112.

That represents strong form and Rocklander has shaped well to finish runner-up in two starts since joining George.

In the first of those at Southwell, he finished 3 3/4 lengths in front of 117-rated Royal Plaza and had a horse rated 120 a further 26 lengths back in fourth.

Those runs suggests the assessor may have taken a real chance in allotting Rocklander an opening handicap mark of just 110, and the son of Oscar looks the type who should have more to offer.

It’s time to get Lucky on Tom George double

Some Are Lucky shaped with bags of promise when runner-up on seasonal reappearance and can go one better to land the 2m 7f handicap hurdle (15:20).

The five-year-old ran well when fifth of 12 in a warm bumper at Cheltenham and opened his account over the obstacles at the second time of asking when easily beating Monkhouse by 10 lengths at Southwell.

Some Are Lucky went on to finish asolid second on handicap debut at Ayr off 120 and hinted that there was better to come when staying on to finish a 1 1/4 length second of eight to Bucking The Trend at Uttoxeter last month.

The gelding looks sure to strip much fitter for that outing and the fourth home, Unanimite, has won since by 59 lengths to give the form a boost.

Although now 3lb higher in the weights, Some Are Lucky has a progressive profile and a mark of 125 should not be beyond him.

Grandad’s World weighted to strike at Nottingham

When it comes to Nottingham bets for November 2, Grandad's World appeals.

When it comes to Nottingham bets for November 2, Grandad’s World appeals.

Grandad’s World looks decent value to take advantage of a drop in the weights and ease in grade to land an overdue success in the 5f handicap on today’s card at Nottingham (14:30).

The Richard Fahey trained four-year-old was last successful in a class 3 contest at Pontefract in April 2015 when scoring off a mark of 90.

Grandad’s World went on to finish an excellent 1 1/2 length runner-up to subsequent Group 1 winner Twilight Son in a hot class 2 handicap at York off 94, and is now able to race in this lower grade class 4 affair off just 82.

That is a career-low mark and makes the gelding dangerously well-treated on the pick of his form.

Although not at his best this season, Grandad’s World he did run well to finish runner-up at this venue five starts back.

The selection has has been from from disgraced in his last two outings, including when a 5 1/4 length 11th of 28 to Hoof It in the consolation race for the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood.

Grandad’s World is also 1-1 in the grade and this represents the easiest task that Grandad’s World has faced for some time.

John Joiner can cash-in on class drop

John Joiner caught the eye last time out and looks the answer to the 5f handicap (15:30).

The four-year-old landed back-to-back class 6 contests at Windsor and Lingfield in the summer and went on to finish runner-up in his next two starts in class 5 company.

John Joiner was then given a break and ran far better than his finishing position suggests when sixth of 16 to Pensax Lad over course and distance seven days ago.

The Peter Hedger trained gelding travelled powerfully for much of the contest until being unable to find an extra close home to be beaten just two lengths.

It was an effort which suggested he could still be well-treated and, with that run under his belt, John Joiner looks to hold every chance of getting back on the scoresheet now dropped back down into the same grade as when last victorious.
