Leading bookmaker Coral has cut the odds on Andy Murray being knighted in the Queen’s New Year’s honours list into 1-4 (from 1-3) after the firm saw a flurry of bets this morning for the world number one on the back of his success in the ATP World Tour Finals.
Murray has also been cut into 2-9 (from 2-5) to be crowned the BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2016 where he sits top of the market ahead of fellow Olympic gold medalists Alistair Brownlee and Mo Farah, who can be backed at 5-1 and 8-1 respectively.
“We’ve seen a flurry of bets for Andy Murray being knighted by the Queen where the odds now suggest he will be recognised in the latest New Year’s honours list,” said Coral’s John Hill.
“Murray is also the hot odds-on favourite to be crowned the BBC Sports Personality of the Year once again to cap off what has been a fantastic year for the newly crowned world number one,” added Hill.
