Coral ambassador Alan Shearer recently spoke exclusively to us regarding the upcoming north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham.

Arsene Wenger’s Gunners have looked in strong form of late domestically, while Mauricio Pochettino’s fellow capital club will enter proceedings on the back of further Wembley disappointment in Europe.

Ahead of the weekend’s biggest top-flight tussle, Shearer shared his opinion on what he thinks will occur at White Hart Lane between the two fierce rivals.

Watch the video below to get all of Alan’s thoughts and insights, while we have also picked out his best quotes to enjoy.

“Arsenal are in sparkling form…”

With the Gunners coming into this encounter on the back of some impressive form, Shearer has been admiring their attacking play of late and sees Alexis Sanchez in particular as the star man.

“Arsenal are in sparkling form and scoring goals again for fun,” Shearer stated. “Alexis Sanchez straight down the middle seems to relish that. Olivier Giroud coming on late in the game [against Sunderland] and getting two goals in the game with his two touches. So they are looking good!”

On the other side of the derby, Shearer thinks Spurs are coming into the game without any confidence, especially following their dreadful performance in the Champions League in midweek. They were toppled by Bayer Leverkusen and our man believes that was exactly what they deserved at Wembley.

“They were pretty awful in that game, every single player didn’t perform at all,” he continued. “They didn’t have any bite or energy in their play and they got what they deserved.”

“It’s advantage Arsenal…”

Arsenal have the advantage according to Alan Shearer, as they head into the north London derby against Tottenham.

Arsenal are in the much better form and Shearer believes they have the advantage for the derby match-up on Sunday.

“Arsenal are a better team this year than they have been the seasons before, but whether they can go on and win, that’s a bit too early to say because we’ve seen it from them before.”

“Yes, it’s advantage Arsenal. Particularly with the form they are in and Tottenham didn’t play well last weekend and didn’t play well on Wednesday evening. They have to get more from their midfield players [to have a chance].”

Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer played his entire career at the top level of English football, winning the Premier League title with Blackburn in 1994-95. The following summer he signed for his hometown club, Newcastle United, for a then world record £15 million fee.

He ended his playing career with a record 260 Premier League goals, which still stands today. He also won 63 caps for England, including 34 as captain, and among his 30 international goals were five scored at Euro 96, a total that won him the Golden Boot at that tournament.

Now the chief pundit on Match Of The Day, Alan was one of the first two players inducted into the Premier League Hall Of Fame this year.
