2016 ATP World Tour Finals final tips

It’s the final that everyone wanted, perhaps bar Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, who now face each other not only for the 2016 ATP World Tour Finals title but also to finish the year ranked as men’s tennis world number one.

The duo came through respective semi-final opponents Milos Raonic and Kei Nishikori, though it is the Serbian who will be the fresher after easily disposing of the latter 6-1 6-1.

Murray, on the other hand, needed to break a record for the longest match in this event’s history (again!) to see off the rapidly rising Canadian 5-7 7-6 7-6.

Never have the duo been so evenly matched at this level, as their odds of 6/4 (Murray) and 8/15 (Djokovic) for victory suggest, and both come into this clash unscathed after winning all three of their group games as well as the semis.

Battle for top spot destined to go distance

Super Serb Djokovic has had by far the upper-hand over the Scotsman throughout their careers, winning 24 of their 34 meetings, including most recently at the French Open.

However, since that tournament he’s dramatically dipped in form – hence why Murray was able to chase him down at the top of the rankings so quickly – so the Scot certainly has more momentum and confidence.

The British and ATP world number one has beaten Djokovic this year too, in the Rome Masters final in straight sets, so why not back him to triumph 2-0 once more at a tasty 10/3?

But with these fellow 29-year-olds being so ultra-competitive, it is surely destined to go all the distance. Odds of 6/5 say there will be over 2.5 sets, while you can back Murray at 7/2 or Djokovic at 11/4 to win 2-1.

Other tasty markets available

Another intriguing market to take would be to take a punt on a tie-break, with the pair having battled out a fair few against each other over the years. Take a price of 10/11 for there to be one at any point, or a more enticing 5/2 for it to occur in the first set.

A scoreline of 6-3 also seems to be a common result in meetings between the two – five in their last three duels to be precise – so take a punt of 7/1 on Murray claiming the second set by that exact outcome.

Whatever happens, it promises to be an epic, so fasten your seat belts, make yourself comfortable and enjoy the ride in what is a race to finish 2016 and begin 2017 as the ATP world number one!
