Weekend in pictures for October 29 and 30
What another incredible weekend it has been in the world of sport! There’s never a dull moment, and punters were treated to fantastic viewing, including Premier League goal fests from Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal fixtures.
While, elsewhere, there was exciting rugby league international action in the Four Nations, the WTA finals in tennis and horse racing at Wetherby and Ascot.

Football
Football fans weren’t short of thrills this weekend, as the Premier League saw plenty of braces bagged and some defiant defending. Though, the highlights came from title-challenging teams Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, as the trio all racked up four goals each when beating Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace respectively.
Meanwhile, there was more frustration for Manchester United and also a Birmingham derby in the Championship…
Giroud and Sanchez doubles help Arsenal sink Sunderland

Alexis Sanchez celebrated with Arsenal teammates, as the Gunners thrashed Sunderland 4-1, with the Chilean and Olivier Giroud both helping themselves to a brace each. The Black Cats are bruised – does relegation finally beckon?
Burnley old boys deny Man Utd

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea embraces Burnley counterpart and former Red Devil Tom Heaton. The Clarets goalie and fellow former Man Utd man Michael Keane heroically helped hold Jose Mourinho’s side to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.
Aguero and Gundogan braces batter Baggies for Man City

Manchester City duo Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan both bagged braces as the Sky Blues thrashed West Bromwich Albion 4-0. Can anyone catch them in the Premier League title race?
Crystal Palace crushed by Liverpool

Liverpool overcame bogey team Crystal Palace 4-2 away at Selhurst Park, further enhancing their title challenging credentials after goals from Emre Can, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino.
Lethal Lukaku sinks Hammers

Romelu Lukaku continued his exceptional record against West Ham United by netting his ninth goal in 11 run outs against the Hammers. Slaven Bilic’s men now face a relegation battle heading into the crucial winter period.

Birmingham City’s David Davis rescued a point in the Second City derby against Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa. Bruce remains undefeated as Villans boss, thanks to a Gary Gardner opener.
Conte’s Costa sees Chelsea triumph

Diego Costa scored Chelsea’s second goal in a 2-0 win over Southampton, making it 11 strikes without reply from the Stamford Bridge outfit’s last four games.

Terrific jumps action at Ascot and Wetherby saw heavyweight horses like Cue Card and Saphir Du Rheu in action, though they weren’t winners of the big races…
Irish Cavalier in Charlie Hall Chase shock

Irish Cavalier (left) proved the surprise winner of the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby for Rebecca Curtis as odds-on favourite and 2015 winner Cue Card could only finish third behind previous victor Menorah.
Antony scoops Sodexo Gold Cup success

Carrying a featherweight of 10st 1lb, Antony scooped Sodexo Gold Cup success at Ascot for father-son duo Gary and Jamie Moore. He took up the running two out and stayed on well with the fancied Saphir Du Rheu only finishing third.
Rugby league
The rugby league Four Nations also dominated weekend TV viewing, as Scotland faced Australia and England took on the mighty New Zealand.
Kangaroos battered Bravehearts in Four Nations bow

Rugby league Four Nations debutants Scotland struggled to contain Australia, as the Kangaroos bounced to a dominant 54-12 victory.
Narrow loss to Kiwis a blow to hosts England

New Zealand completed their famous Haka before the start of their rugby league Four Nations encounter with England. The Kiwis went on to beat the hosts 17-16 thanks to a late Shaun Johnson drop-goal.
Cricket
Bangladesh and England battled it out in Dhaka in the second and final Test match of the series, with the hosts making history largely thanks to the efforts of teenage spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz…
Bangladesh beat England to draw series

Bangladesh’s players celebrate after beating England in a Test match for the first time ever, to draw the series 1-1. The tourists were in a great position as they chased the hosts’ total, but a capitulation meant they lost by 108 runs.
Tennis
There was a shock in the tennis world too on Sunday, as Dominika Cibulkova shocked favourite, top seed and women’s world number one Angelique Kerber in the singles final of the WTA Finals with a 2-0 victory in Singapore. While, Andy Murray also enjoyed trophy success in the Vienna Open in Austria!

Dominika Cibulkova celebrated with her WTA Finals trophy after sinking women’s world number one Angelique Kerber 2-0 in a sporting shock.
Murray victory over Tsonga in Vienna

Andy Murray claimed the Vienna Open title by beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets. Should the Scot next win the Paris Masters he’ll replace Novak Djokovic as men’s world number one.
