Weekend in pictures for October 22 and 23

There was plenty of thrilling sporting action to take place over the weekend, including matchweek nine of Premier League fixtures, in which Jose Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge with Manchester United. Fight night was also held in Birmingham, while there was racing drama from Cheltenham.

All eyes were on Stamford Bridge for the weekend’s big clash between Chelsea and Mourinho’s Man Utd, while there were plenty of other shock results in the top-flight and a tasty Old Firm derby in Scotland…

Champions Leicester ease past Palace

Champions Leicester City stretched their unbeaten home run to 20 games with a 3-1 success over Crystal Palace, as summer signing Ahmed Musa scored his first goal for the club, while Shinji Okazaki and Christian Fuchs struck in the second-half. Yohan Cabaye bagged a late consolation goal for Alan Pardew's Eagles.

John Stones was the latest Manchester City player to suffer a defensive mishap, as Pep Guardiola's men were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton. Nathan Redmond capitalised on a calamitous backpass from Stones in the first-half to open proceedings, before substitute Kelechi Iheanacho netted a vital equaliser.

Britain's Lewis Hamilton cut the gap between him and Formula 1 Drivers' Championship leader Nico Rosberg to 26 points by claiming the 50th win of his career at the United States Grand Prix in Texas. The defending world champion now has the joint most victories on American soil with Michael Schumacher, with Rosberg having come in second place and Australian Daniel Ricciardo managed third position on the podium.
