There was plenty of thrilling sporting action to take place over the weekend, including the latest instalment of Premier League fixtures, in which Chelsea faced champions Leicester City. Fight night was also held in Liverpool, while there was racing drama from British Champions Day.

Leicester City's poor start to the defence of their famous Premier League crown continued as they were easily dispatched 3-0 by Chelsea, with Eden Hazard starring and scoring as well as strikes from Diego Costa and Victor Moses.

Walcott stars as Arsenal edge by Swans

Theo Walcott grabbed two goals while Mesut Ozil added a third as Arsenal edged past Swansea City with a 3-2 result at the Emirates. Granit Xhaka was given his marching orders as the Welsh club rallied back but their efforts were in vain as the Gunners secured three points on home soil.

Everton stopper Maarten Stekelenburg was the hero at the Etihad as the Dutchman saved two penalties from both Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero to help hold Manchester City to a 1-1 draw. Romelu Lukaku opened proceedings after the hour mark but Spaniard Nolito pounced for the equaliser only eight minutes later.

Almanzor put his rivals to the sword with a ruthless display in the Group 1 British Champion Stakes at Ascot. Trained in France by Jean-Claude Rouget, the colt simply outclassed his rivals in the 1m 2f contest to notch his fifth success on the bounce. Almanzor was always travelling kindly for jockey Christophe Soumillon before being produced to lead at the furlong marker and showing a devastating foot to stretch clear and easily beat recent Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Found by two lengths.

The Tin Man provided Newmarket trainer James Fanshawe with a second success in the Group 1 British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot when coming from off the pace under Jockey Tom Queally to score decisively by a length. Fourth in the race last year, The Tin Man held off the late challenges Growl and Brando to notch his first success at the highest level. Fanshawe had previously saddled The Tin Man's half-brother Deacon Blues to land the 6f contest in 2011.

Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien posted his third ever winner on British Champions Day when Minding ran out the impressive 1/2 length victor of the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. The filly, who was recording her fifth Group 1 win of the season and seventh in all, was always travelling powerfully for jockey Ryan Moore and the pair accelerated to the front just over a furlong from home. The three-year-old had to dig deep to repel the challenge of the Richard Fahey-trained Ribchester but stuck on gamely to record a famous victory.

Chinese cueist Liang Wenbo became the first ever winner of the Coral English Open as he rallied to an impressive 9-6 victory over Judd Trump in the final at EventCity in Manchester. Wenbo's win saw him claim his maiden ranking event title, only the fourth Asian player to do so after Ding Junhui of China, Hong Kong's Marco Fu and Thailand's James Wattana.
