Luke Morris is St Michel jockey in Cesarewitch

Coral horse racing amabssador Luke Morris has a couple of mounts at Newmarket on Saturday, including being the St Michel jockey in the Cesarewitch.

He spoke exclusive to us about both his Newmarket rides, and who he fancies in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes, which is the feature race…

LAST weekend was incredible and Marsha did exactly what we always thought she was capable of when she won the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye on Arc day at Chantilly.

The last time I had a Group 1 winner it was in the Abbaye six years ago and every year that goes by you’re praying you’ll get another one. So to get on the board was brilliant and an amazing buzz.

Marsha was fantastic. They went hard up front and it really set up beautifully for her. She’s done for the year now but she’ll be back next year for races like the King’s Stand, Nunthorpe and those other top 5f races. Whatever happens, she owes us nothing.

The one thing that was a little different between my Group 1 wins was the atmosphere. With Longchamp being redeveloped the racing had to be moved but the atmosphere wasn’t as compelling at Chantilly as it is Longchamp, and when they go back to Paris it’s going to be better.

I know they’ll be a good atmosphere at Newmarket today for the second day of the Future Champions festival and in St Michel I’ve got an excellent chance of scooping another big race.

Newmarket rides

2.20 Newmarket – Harmonize
She ran in a similar race the last day and just got a bit unbalanced in the Dip. Her having the run at Newmarket before will put her in a better place for this race and I’d like to think she’s on a good workable mark and she should be a filly who’s still improving. I think she’s got a solid each-way chance.

3.30 Newmarket – Churchill
I’m not riding in the Dewhurst but I really like Churchill. I think he’s a Classic horse for next year and I’d be disappointed if he was beaten in this race.

4.10 Newmarket – St Michel

As the St Michel jockey, Luke Morris knows how to get the best out of him.

He’s 15lb well-in for this race and on the figures he’s the one they all have to beat. I’d like to think he’s still progressive and despite him being drawn wide he’s a horse who likes to be held up so it’s not the end of the world.

He’s won on his only start at the course and he’s simply the best horse in the race at the weights. I’ll ride him with plenty of confidence. He worked with our other Cesarewitch runner Sea Of Heaven on Tuesday and both horses were in great order. I think he’s still in as good a form as he’s been all season.

Cheers,
Luke
