Brodie and Crowley a potent combination at Kempton

Coral Ambassador Jim Crowley is just days away from winning his first jockey’s title and Brodie can provide him with another success in the 1m 4f maiden on this evening’s card at Kempton (19.55).

The Luca Cumani trained filly was sent off a heavily-backed favourite on debut in a 1m 2f maiden at Goodwood and although eventually beaten seven lengths into third behind Saunter offered plenty to work on.

Brodie raced prominently through and after running green and getting slightly outpaced three from home stayed on again without being unduly knocked about.

Trainer in top form

The winner is a useful sort who has scored again since and the fifth home Silhouette has also gone on to taste success.

That gives the form a solid look and Brodie is entitled to come on signifcantly for the experience and looks sure to appreciate the step up in trip.

Other pluses are that Cumani has an incredible strike rate of just under 37 per cent with his runners at the Sunbury-on-Thams venue in the past 12 months and remains in top form having saddle five winners from his last 11 runners.

Westbourne Grove weighted to get back to winning ways

In the 5f handicap (17.55), Westbourne Grove looks to have plenty in his favour now dropped back in trip and reunited with jockey Robert Winston.

The John Butler trained gelding opened his account over course and distance two starts back when coming with a steady run from midfield under Winston to get up close home and score by 1/2 a length off a mark of 50.

Westbourne Grove was the far from disgraced 24 hours later under a 6lb penalty when sixth of 14 to Commanche over 6f at Chelmsford when weakening late on to be beaten just over four lengths in the hands of Adam Kirby.

Drop back in trip a big plus

The three-year-old will appreciate the drop back to the minimum trip and is now able to race off a mark off 53, just 3lb higher than when last successful.

It gives Westbourne Grove major claims from a handicapping perspective in what is a weak class 6 contest and with Winston back in the plate this looks a nice opportunity for the son of Munnings to get back on the scoresheet.
