Chelsea can count on Conte

Fans can have faith that Italian will bring success back to club

Antonio Conte proved on Sunday that Chelsea fans can count on him to get their side back to where they belong in the Premier League table.

The Blues’ 4-0 demolition of Manchester United on the weekend was just as much a show of their attacking strength than it was of United’s defensive failings and that result has now left them just one point off leaders Manchester City.

Pep struggling at City

Pep Guardiola is currently going through a tough spell, where his side has not tasted victory in five consecutive games. Mind you, the last that time that happened (2009 at Barcelona) he went on to win a treble of trophies in the same season, so watch this space.

At the time of writing, Manchester City remain the 6/4* favourites to land the Premier League title in the Catalan’s debut season in English football, but the value could lie in backing Conte’s more organised Chelsea outfit at a tempting 13/2*.

Rock solid defence

The back three of David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta, in front of number one keeper Thibaut Courtois, have kept three consecutive Premier League clean sheets. That bodes well for their title challenge as in that same time frame, City have conceded eight goals, with Liverpool and Arsenal each conceding twice and Tottenham letting in three.

It’s not just their defence that makes them a worthy punt for the title though…

In their last three games, Chelsea have scored nine goals which have been shared out between no fewer than seven different players. Even midfield linchpin N’Golo Kante got in on the act during Sunday’s victory, as did captain Cahill.

Costa in top form

Despite the whole team pitching in on the goals front, it’s danger man Diego Costa who currently sits top of the Premier League scoring charts with seven. The Brazil-born Spain striker is so often the catalyst for his side’s passionate performances at the Bridge and, love him or loathe him, it’s hard to argue with the fact that he has a keen eye for goal.

Sergio Aguero currently heads the top scorer market, but the Argentine has proven to be injury-prone over the last few years and another lengthy spell on the touchlines this season could pave the way for Costa at odds of 10/3*.

If Costa can continue his scoring form and Chelsea remain resilient at the back, there’s a very good chance the Premier League title can return to west London for the second time in three seasons.
