Bangladesh v England 2nd Test tips

Bangladesh came as close to beating England in a Test match as they ever have last time out, by coming just 22 runs away from claiming at famous victory in Chittagong.

The hosts have one more chance of achieving that feat, though, and in turn deny the tourists from winning the series and both teams battle it out at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

So, read on to find out our top tips for the five-day match that starts on Friday, October 28…

Alastair Cook wincast

Cook will be looking to make amends and top score for England in Dhaka.

Cook will be looking to make amends and top score for England in Dhaka.

Captain Cook failed to really get going in the last Test, managing scores of just 4 and 12, but, being the highly competitive man he is, he’ll be determined to make amends in Dhaka.

The 31-year-old opener has two centuries against Bangladesh in history, including when they last played at this ground in 2010 as he recorded an unbeaten 109.

So, back Cook at 5/1 to top score for England in the first innings on his way to guiding his team to a 10th straight Test victory over the South Asians.

Moeen Ali to be top England bowler

Spin is set to play a big part in Dhaka, so much so that Cook has hinted he could use four genuine slow bowlers for his attack, with young-gun Zafar Ansari to join Gareth Batty, Adil Rashid and Ali, as well as part-timer Joe Root.

Ali shone brightest out of the above in Chittagong, though, taking five wickets across both innings. While, last time the two teams battled here, the similarly styled right-arm off-spinner Graeme Swann was the best bowler for England in the first innings.

Worcestershire all-rounder Ali, therefore, is a tasty 7/2 price to replicate the former international star.

Tamim Iqbal to be top Bangladesh batsman

History suggests Iqbal is set to be among the runs against England again.

History suggests Iqbal is set to be among the runs against England again.

Over to Bangladesh’s players, opener Iqbal’s knock of 78 got his team off to a great start in reply to a relatively low England total of 293.

The 27-year-old also top scored in the first innings for his team in the 2010 Test here with 85, and is 7/2 joint-favourite to exact that feat at the same ground.

Shakib Al Hasan to be top Bangladesh bowler

Al Hasan should be among the wickets again on a spin-friendly pitch.

Al Hasan should be among the wickets again on a spin-friendly pitch.

Bangladesh’s star of the team Al Hasan is likely to cause England a lot of problems if he gets going, like he did in the opening Test with seven wickets in total.

The all-rounder was also best bowler for the Men in Blue in Dhaka in 2010, so take tempting odds of 3/1 for the slow left-armer to do so once more, and outperform teenage wonder and namesake Mehedi Hasan.

Joe Root to hit over 5.5 1st innings fours

Back Root to find the boundary in Dhaka.

Back Root to find the boundary in Dhaka.

Like Cook, Root will be determined to set things right after a below par performance last time out, although he did manage to score 40 in the first innings.

The Yorkshire superstar hit five fours that day, and so can certainly go at least one better during the opening innings of this upcoming 2ns Test.

Odds of 13/10 say he can hit over 5.5 fours in Dhaka.
