Salouen each-way solid among Racing Post Trophy ante post tips
Capri looks a worthy favourite at 11/8 in Saturday’s Racing Post Trophy ante post betting at Doncaster (15:50), but Salouen has proven form at the highest level and rates decent each-way value at the 10/1 currently on offer with Coral.
The Sylvester Kirk trained colt has posted improved efforts since being stepped up to the race distance of 1m, winning two of his last four starts.
In the first of those, the two-year-old sluiced up by 3 1/2 lengths to open his account in a six-runner maiden at Windsor.
Connections then decided to have a crack at the Group 3 Solario Stakes over 7f at Sandown. Salouen ran cracker to finish a 2 1/4 length runner-up to South Seas.
Fine run in Solario
After being held-up in last place, the son of Canford Cliffs was forced to make a move out wide two from home and stayed on powerfully up the straight to be gaining at the finish.
It was a fine effort, given how the race panned out, and Salouen duly got back to winning ways next time out at Salisbury. He appreciated the step back up to 1m, running on strongly to beat Sea Fox with more in hand than the half-a-length winning margin suggests.
The runner-up is a useful sort who has since gone on to finish a length third in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket. That gives the form a solid look, especially considering the selection was conceding that rival 3lb.
Career-best effort at Chantilly
Salouen was pitched in at the deep end on the back of that victory, posting a career-best effort earlier in the month when runner-up to National Defense in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagadare at Chantilly on Arc de Triomphe day.
Although no match for the easy 4 1/2 length winner, Salouen stuck to the task really well after being awkwardly away and finished in front of some highly-regarded, useful types.
It was a performance which suggested there could be even better to come. Salouen thus goes into the Racing Post Trophy on an upward curve and in the form of his life.
