Five US Open 2016 day 8 tips

Andy Murray does battle with 22nd seed Grigor Dimitrov on the second Monday of the US Open, and before day 8 is done we’ll know the quarter-final line-ups in both men’s and women’s singles draws.

That means even more Grand Slam tennis betting opportunities for Coral customers, and our experts have got their heads together for five worthy wagers from what remains of the fourth round action.

Here are the top US Open 2016 day 8 tips for you to take…

Murray to win, but Dimitrov to take a set

Andy to win 3-1 is the recommended price from the Dimitrov v Murray betting.

Andy to win 3-1 is the recommended price from the Dimitrov v Murray betting.

First up, the punt that appeals most in Dimitrov v Murray betting is siding with the Scot to win in four sets.

Both Murray and his Bulgarian foe dropped one in their third round fixtures, and in each of the last three hard court clashes at least one set has gone against the winner.

The form of the 2015 Australian Open encounter looks good to be repeated here at Flushing Meadows, so back Murray at 5/2 to win 3-1.

Venus Williams to get past Pliskova

Venus Williams also features among our US Open 2016 day 8 tips.

Women’s singles sixth seed Venus Williams can feel confident of making the quarter-finals because she has won the only previous career meeting with last 16 opponent Karolina Pliskova.

That was on a hard court last year and came in straight sets. With just four spots between these ladies in the seedings, however, we’re advocating the safer punt on the outright match betting.

Venus is 11/10 to defeat Pliskova again; while if you fancy taking her to replicate the 2-0 victory in the set betting, then a 5/2 price is on offer.

Karlovic to take Nishikori opener 6-4

Ivo Karlovic's massive serve should cause Kei Nishikori some issues.

Ivo Karlovic’s massive serve may well cause Kei Nishikori some issues.

Ace-serving Croatian veteran Ivo Karlovic’s serve should pose problems for men’s singles sixth seed Kei Nishikori, who had to come from a set down to defeat Nicolas Mahut last time out.

In their only previous encounter that was the first to three sets, Karlovic took the opener 6-4 and also did so in a straightforward win over Jared Donaldson to set up this clash.

For those of you after a longer odds punt, taking a terrific 10-1 on Nishikori losing the first set by that precise scoreline courtesy of Karlovic is thus worth a wager.

Suarez Navarro to win Halep first set

Carla Suarez Navarro might not beat Simona Halep, but history suggests you should side with her for the first set.

Carla Suarez Navarro might not beat Simona Halep, but history suggests you should side with her for the first set.

In an intriguing women’s singles encounter between top seeds Carla Suarez Navarro and Simona Halep, we like the look of the former to take the opener.

While the Spaniard has lost all but one of their five hard court meetings, Suarez Navarro has won the first set in three of the last four battles on that surface.

A tempting 2/1 price says she can take the lead in her battle with Halep, who struggled to beat Timea Babos last time out, and punters have the security of not betting on the outright match result.

Del Potro to trounce Thiem in straight sets

Juan Martin del Potro looks back to his best, so Dominic Thiem should be no trouble for the Argentine.

Juan Martin del Potro looks back to his best, so Dominic Thiem should be no trouble for the Argentine.

And the last of our US Open 2016 day 8 tips is all about a fit-again Juan Martin del Potro making light work of Austria’s number eight seed Dominic Thiem.

Having already knocked out two seeded players (Steve Johnson and David Ferrer) in straight sets to reach this point, 2009 US Open champion Del Potro looks to be in fine form once more.

Thiem’s progress to the fourth round has been far from serene by comparison, however, dropping three sets across his earlier matches. Take a sweet 7/4 price on Del Potro defeating him 3-0.
