Twitter reacts to weekend’s sporting action

It has been another thrilling weekend of sporting action, kicking off with two shock emphatic Premier League wins and a lightweight boxing title defence.

So, read on to see the best Twitter reaction to the sporting events Coral have picked out just for you…

Man Utd 4-1 Leicester

The Red Devils answered their critics against Premier League Champions Leicester City with an impressive win, going in at half-time 4-0 up.

Goals from Chris Smalling, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba fired the under pressure side to a win in which they looked fluid, energetic and confident – with Pogba being named Man of the Match after a stellar performance.

High-flying Foxes have wings clipped

For Claudio Ranieri’s side, the result was a reality check and shows us what an unbelievable, one-off achievement last year’s title triumph was. At least their fans took it well…

Rooney dropped

It had been coming, but when Wayne Rooney was eventually dropped it almost came as a shock.

After a sublime team performance, England’s all-time leading scorer will find it hard to make his way back into starting contention…

Arsenal 3-0 Chelsea

Arsene Wenger’s Gunners ran riot over Chelsea thanks to some awful defending, snapping the Stamford Bridge outfit’s nine league game unbeaten run in this fixture.

Mesut Ozil not only ran the show, scoring the final goal, but also produced a heartwarming moment at full-time by giving an adoring fan his jersey…

Hammers new stadium blues

The future looked bright for West Ham United moving into their new state-of-the-art stadium, but their new home hasn’t been a happy hunting ground so far this season, with fans citing the lack of soul and atmosphere…

Last time West Ham conceded 15 or more goals in their opening six Premier League games, they were relegated.

Awesome Austin

The man who Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan said had “no knees” Charlie Austin, scored and assisted in Southampton’s 3-0 victory over the Hammers, their fourth triumph on the bounce.

Drogba fires back

After their embarrassing defeat, Blues legend Didier Drogba was on hand to fire back after Theo Walcott’s triumphant tweet.

Chelsea have dominated the fixture in recent years, featuring a 6-0 obliteration in 2014, on Wenger’s 1000th game as Arsenal boss.

Crolla loses belt to Linares

Venezuelan lightweight boxer Jorge Linares unified the division with an incredible fight against Manchester’s Anthony Crolla.

Crolla failed to cope with the South American’s sharp counter-punches and savvy movement. He was then left jelly legged after taking a powerful overhand right in the sixth round.

Linares immediately offered Crolla a rematch at the Manchester Arena and promoter Eddie Hearn is already in negotiations.
