Thirsk and Yarmouth previews: Class-dropping Mythmaker makes plenty of appeal
David Metcalf | September 13, 2016
Mythmaker a tasty punt at Thirsk
Mythmaker was a big eye-catcher last time out and can cash-in on a drop in class to land the 6f handicap on today’s card at Thirsk (15.30).
The Bryan Smart trained gelding ran a cracker on seasonal reappearance when runner-up to See The Sun in an 18-runner class 2 affair at York and after disappointing on the Teapta surface at at Newcastle bounced back with a fine seventh of 20 to stablemate Nameitwhatyoulike in the class 2 Great St Wilfrid last time out at Ripon.
Mythmaker did best of those drawn low on the disadvantaged far side in the latter, showing plenty of early dash to lead and keeping on well inside the final furlong to be beaten just 2 3/4 lengths.
It was a cracking effort given how the race panned out and the form has been given a boost as the winner has since gone on to land a Listed contest at York and the fourth home Pipers Note also scored next time up.
Mythmaker has since been kindly dropped 1lb by the handicapper to a mark of 95 and that is just 4lb higher than when last successful.
It gives the four-year-old major claims from a handicapping perspective, especially now dropped back down into class 3 company.

Mythmaker is among Coral’s Thirsk tips for September 13.
Cruise Tothelimit handicapped to strike
Cruise Tothelimit has become dangerously well treated and looks decent value to score an overdue success in the 6f handicap (16.30).
The Pat Morris trained eight-year-old is on a long losing run having not scored since landing a class 4 contest over course and distance two years ago off a mark of 84.
However, he has run some solid efforts in defeat and is now able to race off a reduced rating of just 65.
That is the lowest rating Cruise Tothelimit has raced off in over four years he comes into the contest on the back of two really solid efforts.
After finishing third at Carlisle, the gelding hinted that his time was near when a close up third in a class a class 5 affair over 5f at Catterick.
The step back up to 6f is sure to suit suit, as is the drop back down to class 6 company, and another plus is that Cruise Tothelimit has the services of crack apprentice Adam McNamara who is unbelievable value for his 5lb claim.

Hurricane Rush can storm to glory at Yarmouth
Hurricane Rush scored in good style last time out and can make light of a rise in the weights to follow-up in the 1m nursery on today’s card at Yarmouth (14.50).
The Charlie Hills trained juvenile has improved with each run and got off the mark at the fourth time of asking when beating by Firefright by 1/2 a length in a 7f contest at Epsom.
After losing vital ground when dwelling at the start, Hurricane Rush came with a steady run from off the pace and stayed on strongly inside the final furlong to get up close home and win going away.
The son of Helmet was value for more than the winning margin and the runner-up has since come out and run a blinder to finish third in a valuable sales race at Doncaster.
That gives the form a solid look and suggests a 3lb rise in the weights for Hurricane Rush could well be on the lenient side, especially as he looks the type who should have more to offer now stepped up in trip.

Hurricane Rush is among Charlie Hills tips to strike for her trainer at Yarmouth.
Silvanus each-way value in sprint finale
Silvanus has been given a big chance by the assessor and looks decent each-way value in the 5f handicap that brings proceedings to a close (17.20).
The Paul Midgley trained 11-year-old has been a terrific servant over the years and has 15 career successes to his name.
In the last of those victories 13 months ago, Silvanus kept on strongly to beat Lexington Place by a length at Ripon off a mark of 94.
The veteran has also posted some solid efforts to make the frame this season, including when third at Thirsk off 95.
Silvanus is now able to race off a reduced rating of just 85, 9lb lower than when last victorious, and comes into the race having run very well at Thirsk when getting no luck in-running prior to being undone by a poor draw when a not knocked about ninth at Ripon.
