This includes Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, who are reportedly tracking highly-rated Sporting Lisbon wideman Gelson Martins and have upper their pursuit after Real Madrid also expressed a desire to capture the youngster.

The 21-year-old has become hot property in Europe after dazzling showings in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, as well as starring recently in the club’s early Champions League campaign.

Mourinho already has a wealth of attacking options at his disposal at Old Trafford, but the Portuguese tactician is believed to be a big admirer of the speedster and wants to beat his former club Los Blancos to his signature.

As Man Utd move for Martins, the Red Devils will want to get a deal done swiftly, with Real having been hugely impressed with his performance at the Bernabeu during the 2-1 European victory over Lisbon recently.

Fonte future in doubt

Another potential target for the Red Devils is Southampton defender Jose Fonte, with the Euro 2016 winning Portugal centre back alerting compatriot Mourinho and co after talks over a new contact have stalled on the south coast.

Jose Fonte has been linked to Man Utd for some time now, and his current contract situation may see the Red Devils pounce in January.

The Saints are desperate to retain the services of their reliant skipper and will eventually offer him a renewed 700k-a-week deal to keep him at St Mary’s, but the player was recently less than optimistic.

“There’s nothing on the table, so I’m waiting. I’ll see what happens,” said Fonte regarding a new Southampton contract. “I’m just focusing on performing and we’ll see what happens. We haven’t agreed anything, it’s just talks.”

Man Utd had considered a move for the Premier League defender this past summer but oversaw the arrival of Eric Bailly from Villarreal instead, though they could swoop for his services when the January transfer window opens.
