NFL week 3 tips

Week 3 of the NFL season has arrived and patterns are beginning to emerge, which will hold the key to determine which of the 32 teams will be in action in the playoffs.

New England Patriots became the first team to reach 3-0 in the campaign, defeating Houston Texans 27-0 even without quarterbacks Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo.

Six teams will aim to join Bill Belichick’s men to maintain their perfect starts to the term, and here Coral’s American football expert gives his top NFL week 3 tips…

Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers

Detroit Lions spread betting appeals ahead of their encounter with Green Bay Packers.

Both teams suffered disappointing defeats last week as the Lions lost at home to Tennessee Titans, while the Packers fell to divisional rivals Minnesota Vikings.

Green Bay are usually one of the most formidable teams on offense in the NFL, but Aaron Rodgers has endured a mediocre start to the campaign, failing to get into rhythm with his receivers.

Mike McCarthy’s men were one of a handful of clubs that seemed capable of making the surge towards the Super Bowl, but a second defeat in the NFC North on the spin would put that in jeopardy.

The Lions recorded their first win at Lambeau Field in 24 years in the 2015 campaign, and will be desperate to bounce back from their defeat to the Titans.

They have the ability to frustrate Rodgers, which could see Detriot Lions spread betting enticing at 19/20 when giving them a +6.5 points advantage.

Denver Broncos @ Cincinnati Bengals

Denver Broncos money line odds for their trip to Cincinnati Bengals look attractive because of former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller.

The Broncos have started the season where they left off in the last campaign, playing dominant defensive football, with Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller leading the way.

Miller has been integral in his side’s two victories thus far, including notching the game-winning sack of Andrew Luck in Denver’s victory over Indianapolis Colts last week.

Meanwhile, the Bengals fell to a narrow loss to their bitter rivals Pittsburgh Steelers, which saw them drop back to 1-1. Marvin Lewis’ men tend to struggle against the elite teams in the league, and their offense will have their work cut out for them at Paul Brown Stadium.

As a result, the Denver Broncos money line price of 13/8 for victory could be tempting, although a lot will rest on whether quarterback Trevor Siemian can keep the turnovers to a minimum.

San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks

The 49ers were tipped to be one of the worst sides in the NFL this season, but have surprised with their plucky start to the campaign, beating Los Angeles Rams before losing a spirited contest against Carolina Panthers.

Seattle have started the season on the front foot defensively, limiting their opponents to just 19 points in their opening two fixtures. However, their offense has put up only 12 on the scoreboard, including three in their loss to the Rams.

This game was once the pinnacle contest in the NFC, with the two teams having battled for a place in the Super Bowl back in 2013. It has lost its allure over the past couple of years due to the 49ers’ struggles, but should Chip Kelly’s men continue their form on defense it could be a close one.

Take the under on 40.5 points or below at 10/11, as the game looks to be a low-scoring affair at CenturyLink Field.

Cleveland Browns @ Miami Dolphins

Ryan Tannehill is one reason why a big margin of victory for Miami Dolphins is among NFL week 3 tips.

Miami were hammered in the first-half of their clash against New England Patriots, trailing 24-3 at the break. Only Garoppolo’s injury prevented Belichick’s men from cruising to a comfortable win as Ryan Tannehill (above) took advantage of the situation to launch a comeback.

Adam Gase’s outfit scored three touchdowns to come within a score of the Patriots, although they fell short of sending the contest to overtime. Their offense will have the opportunity to put up further scores against the injury-hit Browns.

Cleveland had arguably the weakest roster heading into the season, which has weakened further by injuries to quarterbacks Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown. Third round selection in the 2016 Draft Cody Kessler will start on Sunday, but could face a baptism of fire.

The Browns’ defense had trouble containing Joe Flacco and Baltimore Ravens’ attack last week, and will face similar problems in Florida. Back the Dolphins to win big over Hue Jackson’s men, with a 19-24 point victory coming in at a sweet 6/1.

San Diego Chargers @ Indianapolis Colts

Quarterback Philip Rivers is reason enough to side with San Diego Chargers over Indianapolis Colts.

Quarterback Philip Rivers is reason enough to side with San Diego Chargers over Indianapolis Colts.

San Diego should be 2-0, but thanks to their collapse in week 1 they’re record sits at .500 ahead of their clash against the Colts in Lucas Oil Stadium.

Despite suffering injuries to key players Keenan Allen and Danny Woodhead their offense remains potent as quarterback Philip Rivers has enjoyed an excellent start to the season. The 34-year-old has thrown five touchdowns, including four in their 38-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.

He could feast on the Colts’ secondary that has a plethora of injury problems, adding further woe for coach Chuck Pagano as his team’s defense lacked quality even without losing players.

It will be up to Luck to keep Indianapolis in the fixture, but he has displayed that signs over the past year and the start of the season that the burden may be too much for him only to carry.

Therefore, the Chargers are a sound bet on the money line at 21/20 to register their second victory of the season and send the Colts to a 0-3 start.
