Whitecliffsofdover the answer to Tattersalls Stakes
Whitecliffsofdover looked a smart prospect when scoring last time out and can take the step up into Group 3 company in his stride to land the Tattersalls Stakes on the opening day of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting (15.40).
The Aidan O’Brien trained colt shaped with stacks of promise when fourth of 14 to stable companion Intelligence Cross in a 6f maiden at the Curragh, racing sweetly in midfield before keeping on under tender handling to be beaten 2 1/2 lengths.
Like many from the yard, Whitecliffsofdover duly came on a bundle for the experience and appreciated the step up to 7f when easily landing a 11-runner maiden at Naas last month.
The son of War Front cruised along at the head of affairs and when asked to go about his business two from home stretched clear to win by three lengths.
It was a most taking performances and one which suggested Whitecliffsofdover had a big future and needed keeping firmly onside.
This represents a much stiffer task, but Whitecliffsofdover looks the type who should have plenty more to offer and now gets the services of Ryan Moore in the saddle for the first time.
Escobar sure to make a bold bid for hat-trick
Escobar is unbeaten in two starts and looks a big player for in-form trainer Hugo Palmer.
The colt looked an above average sort when winning a 14-runner maiden on debut at Newbury and confirmed that impression when landing the Listed Washington Singer Stakes at the same venue in impressive fashion.
After being held-up in last place going well in a four-runner field, Escobar made smooth headway to take up the running two from home and only had to be pushed out by Frankie Dettori to quicken clear and comfortably beat Mr Scaramanga by 1 1/4 lengths.
The third and fourth home have both come out and won since to give the form a solid look and judged on the manner of the performance Escobar should be up to making an impact at this level.
Ultimate Avenue not to be underestimated
Ultimate Avenue is held in very high regard by trainer Ed Walker and looks a lively outsider.
The colt went into plenty of notebooks when staying on under a hands and heels ride to finish third on debut at Yarmouth and duly showed the benefit of that experience when making all to land a 13-runner maiden at Newbury by 1 3/4 lengths.
There was lost to like about the way in which Ultimate Avenue went about his business in the latter and the fourth, fifth and sixth home have all come out and won since.
That suggests it was a decent contest for the grade and Ultimate Avenue has reportedly thrived since.
