Shearer says: “I like the way Klopp goes about his business. He’ll upset a few managers with his antics”

In the latest of a series of exclusive interviews, Coral football ambassador Alan Shearer sat down with our very own John Hill to discuss Liverpool v Leicester City, which is Saturday teatime’s Premier League offering.

“Liverpool will get better”

This will be the first competitive game at Anfield since the new main stand was completed, and Shearer feels the Reds will continue to improve under Jurgen Klopp.

“Liverpool will get better, I’m pretty certain of that,” Shearer said. “I think they’ll have a good season. It will also help that they are not playing European football.

“I seem them in and around the top four. I’ve been very impressed with the enthusiastic nature of Klopp. I like the way he goes about his business. I’m sure he’s going to upset one or two managers on the touchline with his antics.”

“Vardy will want to prove a point to the England manager”

The visiting Foxes are Premier League champions, but Shearer doesn’t expect them to keep hold of that crown and also expressed sympathy for Jamie Vardy.

“They got off to a disappointing start,” Shearer added of Leicester’s beginning to the season. “Jamie Vardy will want to prove a point to the England manager [Sam Allardyce], because I thought he was unlucky to be left out of the last England game when he was in-form.

“If teams continue to play that high line, he is sure to punish them. If there is a weak point in that Liverpool team, then it could be defensively and he could exploit that.

“I don’t expect them to be Premier League champions again come the end of the season. If Leicester were to get anywhere near sixth or seventh, I still think it’ll be a brilliant season for them.

“When you compare the sums of money that have been spent at other football clubs to get them to the top of the league, and the size that Leicester are, it was a miracle. I don’t think miracles will happen twice in two years.”
