Quiet Reflection odds a huge shout for Haydock Sprint Cup
Karl Burke’s Quiet Reflection looks decent value to gain her revenge on Limato and land a cracking renewal of the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup (16:30) this Saturday.
This filly has won six of her eight starts and looked a young sprinter on a serious upward curve when winning her first three starts this season.
After landing a Group 3 at Chantilly and the Group 2 Temple Stakes over course and distance in scintillating style, the daughter of Showcasing took the step up into Group 1 company in her stride to land the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
Quiet Reflection travelled strongly throughout in the hands of a confident Dougie Costello before quickening smartly to score with more in hand than the winning margin of a length suggests.
It was a performance which oozed class, and the daughter of Showcasing’s potent turn of foot marks her out as something special. Quiet Reflection odds thus look well worth taking among Haydock Sprint Cup tips.
In “fantastic form” following fine run in July Cup
The three-year-old then lost little in defeat last time out when taking on on older horses for the first time and finishing third of to Limato in the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket.
Quiet Reflection showed plenty of pace to track the leaders before keeping on well to be beaten 2 1/4 lengths. She may have been unbalanced on the undulating track on ground, which was far quicker than ideal and in the circumstances it was a cracking effort.
The return to a more galloping venue and slower surface are sure to suit and Quiet Reflection is reported to be in rude health by her connections following a break.
Simon Bridge, one of the directors of the Ontoawinner syndicate that own the filly, said: “She’s in fantastic form and her last couple of pieces of work have been very good.
“The ground should be perfect and we go with a big chance. Clearly it’s a Group 1 so there are no gimmes, but I wouldn’t swap her for any of the other runners. She should run a very big race.”
Limato an obvious danger
Limato holds Quiet Reflection on his stunning success in the July Cup and has since run a solid race to finish runner-up to Mecca’s Angel in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York’s Ebor Festival over the flying 5f.
This Henry Candy trained gelding is clearly a class act and the one to beat on form, but all his best runs has come on quick ground and he is not going to get that with going currently good and light showers forecast.
That has to be a big concern in a race of this nature, especially in such a strong renewal. For that reason it is worth opposing the ante post favourite despite the fact that the step back up to 6f will definitely suit Limato.
The Tin Man not to be underestimated
The Tin Man looks a big player for in-form trainer James Fanshawe, so could be a worthwhile each-way wager among Haydock Sprint Cup tips.
This gelding developed into a top class sprinter last season when winning three times and finishing an excellent 3 3/4 length fourth of 20 to Muhaarar in the Group 1 Champions Sprint at Ascot.
Judged on that effort, The Tin Man looked one to keep onside and the type to do even better as a four-year-old. That view was confirmed when he bolted up by two lengths on return to action in a Listed contest at Windsor.
Although he subsequently failed to shine when eighth of nine to Twilight Son in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, The Tin Man showed that running to be all wrong when showing a devastating turn of foot to land the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury when last seen in action.
He looks more than capable of making his presence felt at this level.
