Doncaster St Leger Festival: Muthmir can sprint to success in Scarbrough Stakes

Muthmir to make mincemeat of Scarbrough Stakes rivals
Muthmir can maintain his unbeaten record at Doncaster by landing the 5f Scarbrough Stakes on the opening day of the St Leger Festival (15.00).
The William Haggas trained six-year-old is unbeaten in two runs at the venue and is a top class sprinter when on-song, as he showed when beating Take Cover by a head in last year’s Group 2 King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Muthmir was also far from disgraced when sixth to Mecca’s Angel in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York and went on to round-off the campaign with an excellent third in the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp.
Coming to the boil nicely
Those races represent very strong form in relation to this lower grade Listed contest, and Muthmir comes into it on the back of two solid efforts.
After finishing a 2 1/2 length sixth of 17 in the Group 2 King George Stakes at Goodwood, the son of Invincible Spirt hinted that his time was near when staying on strongly to finish a 1/2 length third to the improving Alpha Delphini in a Listed contest at Beverley.
The return to this venue is sure to suit and another plus is that Muthmir hails from a yard in red-hot form at present.
Pearl Secret a big player
Pearl Secret is not the easiest to catch right but has some strong form to his name and looks an obvious danger if on a going day.
David Barron’s seven-year-old was last successful in a Group 2 contest and Haydock 15 months ago and finished just 3/4 of a length behind Muthmir when a fine fourth in the Prix de l’Abbaye.

Pearl Secret also wasn’t far behind the selection when seventh in the King Goerge Stakes at Goodwood on his penultimate outing, and will find this much easier than the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York, in which he finished 11th of 19 to Mecca’s Angel last time out.
Go On Go On Go On not to be underestimated
Go On Go On Go On has a progressive profile and could be the one to capitalise if the “big two” underperform.
The Clive Cox trained filly has won her last three starts in handicaps in the manner of a three-year-old on a serious upward curve and looks well worth a crack at this level.
Taking on older and seasoned sprinters is not going to be easy but Go On Go On Go On looks the type who should have plenty more to offer.
It also looks significant that jockey Adam Kirby has chosen her over stable companion Priceless who is rated 5lb her superior and has some fair form in the book.
