Dark Amber weighted to shine at Bath

Dark Amber has been given a massive chance by the assessor and looks the answer to the 1m 2f handicap on today’s card at Bath(15.10).

The Brendan Powell’s trained mare was last successful at Goodwood 13 months ago when only having to be nudged out to score by a neck off a mark of 68 and subsequently went on to finish a fine third at Ffos Las off 74.

Dark Amber is now able to race off a reduced rating of just 56, a massive 12lb lower than when last victorious, and that gives her major claims at the weights on the pick of her form.

The six-year-old also comes into the contest on the back of two eye-catching efforts, finishing sixth of 19 in a class 1 apprentice handicap at Leopardstown and a never nearer fourth in an amateur riders’ contest at Haydock when given far too much to do.

Those runs suggests that Dark Amber is coming to the boil and she is now reunited with 3lb claimer Edward Greatrex, who won on her in the past, and runs in class 6 company for just the second time in her career.

Bath

Just Isla each-way value

Just Isla has a decent record at the track and looks worth an each-way wager in the 1m handicap (14.40).

The mare has been placed twice in three runs over course and distance, and in the last of those back in July kept on nicely to be beaten 2 1/4 lengths off a mark of 55.

Just Isla is now able to race off 53, 5lb lower than when last successful at Kempton in November, and that gives the six-year-old every chance from a handicapping perspective.

The daughter of Halling also has proven form on the forecast good-to-soft going and boasts a near 23 per cent strike rate in the grade having won five times and been placed on four occasions from 22 starts in class 6 company.

Bath best bets

14.10: Fine Resolve
14.40: Just Isla (E/W)
15.10: Dark Amber (NAP)
15.40: Spring Jig
16.10: Maazel
16.40: Incentive
17.10: Archie Stevens
17.40: Dusty Blue

Little Pippin has a big chance at Hamilton

Little Pippin ran a blinder when runner-up last time out and can go one better to land the the 1m 1f handicap on today’s card at Hamilton (16.55).

The Tony Coyle trained filly came from off the pace and kept on strongly to be beaten just 1/2 a length by The Wee Bara in a 12-runner contest over 1m at this venue seven days ago.

It was a cracking effort and Little Pippin is able to race in this weaker looking affair off an unchanged mark of 51.

That makes the three-year-old look nicely treated and Little Pippin’s sole success came on heavy ground so the rain that has hit the track in the past 24 hours is a massive plus.

The daughter of Sir Percy should also relish the step back up in trip and remains relatively lightly-raced after nine starts in comparison to her rivals and open to further progression.

Tony Coyle's Little Pippin is looking to go one better at Hamilton.

Mud-loving Scrutiner can score in feature sprint

Scrutineer revels in testing conditions and looks decent value to lower the colours of red-hot favourite Danzeno in the 6f Conditions Stakes (15.50).

The Mick Channon trained colt has finished behind the jolly in his last two starts, but hasn’t been beaten far on both occasions and has proven winning form on the ground.

All of Danzeno’s best form in recent seasons has been on quick going and he also has a tendency to fluff the start and has not looked the heartiest when it comes to a battle at the business end of affairs.

Scrutineer is by far the most straightforward of the pair and his proven ability to stay further is another plus given the heavy conditions.

In what is likely to come down to a war of attrition the three-year-old looks to have plenty going for him.

Hamilton top tips

16.20: Dolphin Rock
16.55: Little Pippin (NAP)
