Premier League tips for weekend fixtures
The second weekend of the 2016/17 Premier League season will throw up plenty of intriguing clashes across England’s top tier division, following dramatic opening encounters which brought an end to the summer break.
Champions Leicester City were stunned by Hull City in their opener and will look to bounce back immediately in the clash of matchweek two, as Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes travel to the Emirates for a battle with Arsenal.

Pogba to strike on second debut against Saints
The weekend’s action gets underway with Manchester United hosting Southampton at Old Trafford, as they look to avoid another Saints shock, having won just two of their last six Premier League meetings and lost the last two.
Jose Mourinho’s men will be on a high from their opening success, though, and are also boosted by the availability of world record signing Paul Pogba. The France international midfielder is set to make his second debut for the club and can be backed at 7/4 to dispatch anytime on his return to the Theatre of Dreams.
Stoke to hold Guardiola’s Man City at home
After narrowly securing three points in his first game in the Premier League, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola must next prove he can do it on an afternoon in Stoke, during Saturday’s early kick-off.
Stoke City have beaten the Sky Blues in the last two consecutive seasons, including last campaign at the Britannia Stadium, and will look to add to their opening stalemate against Middlesbrough. The Potters are therefore 14/5 to frustrate Guardiola’s men by holding them to a draw on home soil.
Clinical Costa to dispatch double past Watford
Diego Costa began proceedings strongly this season after firing in the late winner over West Ham to hand Antonio Conte a winning start to his Chelsea career in the Premier League, and the Italian may get the best out of his Brazilian-born Spain striker.
The feisty frontman failed to live up to expectations last season, despite being unplayable at times during his first campaign, but the Blues hitman looked sharp against the Hammers. Costa is therefore 5/1 to fire in two or more goals against Watford, having done so in this fixture last season.
Kane to open Spurs scoring over Palace
After a disappointing Euro 2016 campaign with England, Tottenham forward Harry Kane will be aiming to banish memories of his underwhelming performances for the Three Lions and get off the mark this season against Crystal Palace.
The Spurs sharpshooter was on target in this fixture last term, as Mauricio Pochettino’s men ran out comfortable 3-1 victors, and he is 7/2 to open his season account by firing in the first goal at White Hart Lane.
Swansea’s Llorente to hand Hull problems
Hull will still be on a high from their stunning victory over champions Leicester last time out, but Swansea City looked impressive in their 1-0 triumph over Burnley and possess enough attacking firepower to earn a second successive win.
Former Juventus and Sevilla frontman Fernando Llorente is set to lead their line once again, having come close to firing in on his debut against the Clarets, and the brilliant Basque targetman is evens to get off the mark anytime over the Tigers.
Toffees to topple West Brom on the road
West Bromwich Albion have not overcome Everton at The Hawthorns since September 2012, losing the last two home clashes and drawing once before that, so Ronald Koeman’s Toffees will travel to the West Midlands with plenty of confidence.
The Merseysiders held Spurs to an opening draw last time around and will enter proceedings at 6/4 to topple Tony Pulis’ Baggies here, with new signing Ashley Williams potentially set to help their cause on the road.
Liverpool to banish Burnley without conceding
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool looked in impressive form in the 4-3 victory over Arsenal in their opener and, despite some frailties at the back, the Reds look more than capable of dispatching Burnley in their second league outing.
The Anfield outfit have beaten the Clarets to nil in six of their last seven meetings, including in the past four successive clashes, so back them to secure another victory at Turf Moor without conceding again at 6/4.
Walcott to continue streak against Leicester
In the pick of the weekend’s top tier tussles, champions Leicester and last season’s second-placed side Arsenal are both hoping to recover from opening day defeats to Hull and Liverpool respectively.
Gunners wideman Theo Walcott missed a penalty in that earlier loss but instantly bounced back to fire in just minutes later and, having struck in this the last three consecutive meetings with Leicester, he is a tasty 7/4 to net anytime again.
Sunderland and Middlesbrough to share spoils
In the first top-flight match-up between Sunderland and Middlesbrough since January 2009, both Northeast clubs will want to earn bragging rights over their local rivals, but a sharing of the spoils looks on the cards on Wearside.
Boro drew their opening encounter with Stoke, while David Moyes’ Black Cats were narrowly beaten by Man City and, with two of the previous four fixture meetings ending all square, another stalemate can be backed at 21/10.
Hammers and Cherries to produce 3.5 goals
The Olympic Stadium will host the final top-flight fixture of the weekend, as West Ham United welcome Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth and aim to bounce back from their opening defeat at the hands of fellow Londoners Chelsea.
This fixture produced plenty of goals last term, with Slaven Bilic’s Hammers winning 3-1 at Dean Court and the Cherries prevailing 4-3 at Upton Park. Therefore, punters can back there to be 3.5 (four or more) successful strikes in this latest encounter in the capital at a tasty 21/10.
