Seeking Sedgefield tips or some Wolverhampton wagers for Thursday evening’s racing? Coral horse racing experts can oblige with our recommended bets from tonight’s racecards…

Cooper’s Friend and Johnson a potent combination at Sedgefield

Cooper’s Friend posted a career-best effort over fences when runner-up last time out, but can go one better to land the 2m 3f handicap chase on this evening’s card at Sedgefield (18:00).

Cheltenham

This Charlie Longsdon trained seven-year-old jumped well and stayed on to be beaten 12 lengths by Our Cat at Market Rasen, and the form of the race has a strong look to it.

Our Cat has since finished a fine second off 10lb higher and the third home Play The Ace, who was receiving 2lb from the selection and beaten a further 2 3/4 lengths, has come out and bolted up at Stratford off a rating of 109.

It makes Cooper’s Friend look well-treated off an unchanged mark of 112, especially as he was rated as high as 117 over hurdles.

The seven-year-old also remains open to improvement after just four starts over the larger obstacles, and has the services in the saddle of champion jockey Richard Johnson in what looks a weak class 4 contest for the grade.

Vic’s Last Stand poised to open account

Also among our Sedgefield tips is Vic’s Last Stand; a horse that has been running well of late and he can thus gain a deserved first success in the 2m 3f handicap hurdle (19:00).

This seven-year-old caught the eye when staying on strongly from off the pace to finish third at Uttoxeter and the found only the thriving Ablazing too good last time out over 2m at the same venue.

Vic’s Last Stand stayed on strongly in the latter to go down by 3 3/4 lengths, with the winner going on to score again since and finish an excellent third off 14lb higher.

That gives the form a solid look in the context of this contest and, given how the Keith Reveley trained mare finished off the race, the step up in trip looks sure to suit.

Vic’s Last Stand also once again has the services in the saddle of amateur John Dawson, who gets a good tune out of her and takes off a handy 5lb with his claim.

Pivotman weighted to strike at Wolverhampton

Pivotman

On to our recommended Wolverhampton wagers now. Pivotman has a good record at the Midlands venue, so looks decent value to capitalise on a drop in the weights and land the 7f handicap (20:45) on this evening’s card.

The seven-year-old has won twice and been placed on two occasions from six starts at the track.

In the last of those successes back in January 2015, Pivotman made virtually all to easily land an amateur riders’ contest by 2 3/4 lengths off a mark of 72.

This Mick Easterby trained gelding backed that up with success in a similar affair at Kempton off 78, and is now able to race off 6lb lower.

It gives the veteran major claims from a handicapping perspective, especially if taking into account the 3lb claim of apprentice Rachel Richardson.

Pivotman also comes into the contest having shaped better than the bare result suggests in his last two starts when held-up and, if normal tactics of racing up with the pace are resumed, he looks weighted to take all the beating on the pick of his form.

Brick Lane can build on promising effort

Brick Lane caught the eye last time out, so can provide in-form trainer Robyn Brisland with another winner in the 7f handicap (19:45).

This three-year-old raced very keenly on the heels of the leaders before keeping on nicely to finish a 3 1/2 length fifth fo 13 to Bonhomie over 1m at this venue.

It was a much improved effort and the third home Broughtons Vision, who finished two lengths in front of the selection, has come out and won since to give the form a boost.

The assessor has also been very kind in quickly dropping Brick Lane 2lb to a mark of 63. That looks very exploitable.

Another plus is that the filly has the services of crack apprentice Josephione Gordon, who is terrific value for her 3lb claim, and Brick Lane also remains unexposed and open to plenty more improvement after just four starts.

Wolverhampton wagers

18.15: Duke Of Yorkshire
18.45: Equity
19.15: Camdora
19.45: Brick Lane (NB)
20.15: Broughtons Story
20.45: Pivotman (NAP)
21.15: La Contessa
