Easterby and Mason a potent combination at Carlisle

Carlisle stages the world’s only race fixture restricted to female riders this evening, and the trainer/jockey combination of Mick Easterby and Joanna Mason look to hold claims of landing a treble courtesy of Hernando Torres, Musaaid and Pivotman.

Hernando Torres runs in the 1m 1f handicap (18:15) and looks weighted to take all the beating now dropped down in class.

The eight-year-old was a dual scorer last season with his last success coming off a mark of 69 in a class 5 contest at Wolverhampton.

Hernando Torres also ran very well to be third of 14 in a competitive class 4 affair at York off 72, and now drops back down into class 5 company off the same mark as when last victorious.

It gives the veteran major claims from a handicapping perspective, and Hernando Torres should now be spot on to do himself justice following two spins back after a 148-day break.

Musaaid ready to cut a dash

Newmarket

Musaaid has caught the eye on more than one occasion and is a fascinating contender in the 6f handicap (19:15).

Thia gelding was allotted and opening handy mark of 84 after making all to win g a 7f maiden at Newmarket when trained by Roger Varian and is now able to race off just 73.

That makes Musaaid potentially very well-treated and he ran well when fifth of 13 to Replenish over 1m at Newcastle three starts back.

The four-year-backed backed that up with a solid fifth of 12 to Lawyer at Ripon over the same trip, travelling strongly before taking up the running two from home and only weakening late on to be beaten just 2 1/4 lengths.

Judged on those efforts, the son of Lawman looks well worth a crack at sprinting.

Pivotman weighted to strike

Pivotman

In the 1m handicap (19:45), Pivotman can capitalise on a drop in the weights to get back to winning ways following an eye-catching run last time out.

The gelding landed in an amateur riders’ contest at Wolverhampton in December 2014 off a mark of 72, and went on to follow-up in a similar affair at Kempton a month later off 78.

Pivotman also ran well at Wolverhampton 12 months ago when third off 80 and is now able to race off a reduced turf rating of just 66.

It makes the eight-year-old dangerously well-treated, and Pivotman comes into the race on the back of a promising effort at Wolverhampton seven days ago when encountering trouble in-running before staying on from off the pace to be a 2 1/4 length fifth.

That effort suggested his time was near; so, if ridden more prominently, Pivotman could prove a tough nut to crack under Mason, who is 1-1 on him and was on board when he was last victorious.
