The Olympics football tournament is well underway and, as the nations head into the quarter-finals, Coral writers have picked out their top tips.

Reigning champions Mexico failed to make it out the group stage, while hosts Brazil face a clash against fellow South Americans Colombia.

Even matchup to end all square

This high-profile men’s quarter-final matchup between two evenly-matched European football powerhouses Portugal and Germany headlines proceedings this weekend.

The Navigators topped their group and will be aiming to emulate their Euro 2016 success, while Die Mannschaft finished their pool two points behind South Korea.

However, the sides look destined for a draw in normal time, with Portugal concluding their group campaign 1-1 and Germany finishing all square twice in their three games. Coral have the nations at a generous 11/1 to draw 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Super Eagles to fly past Danes

Denmark had the chance to top their group in their previous game, but were thrashed 4-0 against the Samba Boys. Meanwhile, Nigeria have eased their way through to the knockout rounds with two wins.

The Danes only mustered a single goal in their entire campaign, despite coming up against South Africa and Iraq. Expect the Super Eagles to triumph in an unanswered 2-0 victory at 6/1. Nigeria won the African Under-23 Championship last year and, with former Super Eagles striker Samson Siasia (who guided his nation to a second place in the 2008 Olympics) at the helm, the country could be considered a dark horse.

Korea kick out

South Korea topped their group, ahead of giants such as Germany and defending champions Mexico. The Taegeuk Warriors averaged four goals a game in qualifying and their clash with Honduras may be no different.

The Central American nation narrowly qualified for the quarter-finals on goal difference, and have been leaking goals throughout the competition – the Koreans are 16/1 to win 3-0 and progress into the semis.

Samba Boys to beat Colombia

Despite Brazil drawing their opening two encounters with South Africa and Iraq, the Samba Boys finally clicked and qualified with a victory over Denmark in their final group game. The host nation possess some fantastic attacking talent, featuring Barcelona’s Neymar, Manchester City’s new big money signing Gabriel Jesus and Felipe Anderson.

Meanwhile, Colombia have netted twice in each of their previous three games and set up a goalfest in Sao Paulo. Brazil are 22/1 to triumph over the Coffee Growers 3-2 and complete our Olympics football tips.
