Five potential next clubs for Wilshere
Since making his Arsenal debut back in 2008, Jack Wilshere has made just 105 Premier League appearances, having been plagued by injury throughout his career, and the Gunners recently confirmed the England international is allowed to depart this summer, possibly on loan.
With Arsene Wenger unwilling to lend the talented midfielder to any top four or London rivals, including 4/1 favourites with Coral for his signature West Ham United (including loan), the 24-year-old could yet find himself moving abroad to Italy or Spain.
So where could the unwanted Arsenal midfielder end up? Ahead of Deadline Day, Coral look at five potential destinations for Wilshere…
Juventus
Italian champions Juventus haven’t been afraid to rejuvenate the careers of midfielders in recent years, with Andrea Pirlo and Sami Khedira prime examples, while they have also been clever in the transfer market previous seasons.
The Turin giants have taken Alvaro Morata, Kingsley Coman and a certain Paul Pogba in past campaigns and moved them on for big-money, and it’s the latter departure that could see Wilshere gain a new home, whether permanently or a season-long stint.
Pogba’s world record return to Manchester United means there is still a void to be filled in the Old Lady’s central areas, with Massimiliano Allegri still seeking a direct replacement. PSG’s Blaise Matuidi has been rumoured but the five-in-a-row Serie A winners are 6/1 to become Wilshere’s next club.
Valencia
Former England assistant coach Gary Neville endured a tough spell in charge of Valencia last season and his time there was eventually cut short after a poor run of results, but Los Che were previously interested in signing Wilshere under his reign.
The Gunners midfielder still has two years remaining on his current deal and, if he can stay fit while away from the Emirates and impress somewhere else, that will put him in a strong bargaining position come next summer.
Valencia, now under the guidance of former Liverpool assistant Pako Ayestaran, have struggled early on this term and clearly lack creativity in the middle after the departure of Andre Gomes to Barcelona. The Mestalla Stadium outfit are therefore 10/1 to land Wilshere next.
Everton
Ronald Koeman is in the process of rebuilding Everton after taking over from Roberto Martinez this year and the Dutchman could be tempted by a swoop for Wilshere, with new investor Farhad Moshiri easily capable of covering his sizeable wage packet.
Wilshere’s England teammate Ross Barkley has flourished so far under Koeman this term, being handed the captain’s armband in the EFL Cup and being handed plenty of trust in a key position for the Toffees.
Gareth Barry has also been in fine form under new management this current campaign and the Merseysiders are 8/1 to secure Wilshere’s arrival at Goodison Park.
Monaco
A loan spell in the south of France isn’t exactly an unappealing prospect, and Ligue 1 side Monaco could yet prove to be the team which oversees Wilshere’s next move.
The French top-flight title challengers have begun the season strongly, sitting in a promising second position on goal difference, and Leonardo Jardim may see Wilshere as another potential boost in their favour. Monaco are 14/1 to be the Stevenage-born midfielder’s next club.
Middlesbrough
Having already pulled off many major coups so far in this summer transfer market, Middlesbrough are 12/1 to add another with the capture of Arsenal’s out-of-favour Wilshere.
The Northeast club managed to lure former Manchester City frontman Alvaro Negredo to the Riverside on loan from Valencia, while wonderkid Viktor Fischer came in from Ajax and World Cup winning goalkeeper Victor Valdes arrived from Manchester United.
A loan swoop for Wilshere would provide Boro with a massive boost in their set-up and massively increase chances of retaining their top-flight status this term, and the midfielder would be guaranteed regular action.
