Four top tips for 1st ODI
After drawing the Test series with Pakistan and missing out on going top of the world rankings, England will be determined to make amends in their five ODIs against the same nation.
Coral have picked out four top tips for cricketing punters to take for the first one-day match at Hampshire’s Rose Bowl…
Morgan to be top England batsman
The likes of Jason Roy, Alex Hales and Jos Buttler all hit hundreds in a 3-1 ODI series win against Pakistan in the UAE late last year, but skipper Eoin Morgan top scored for England with 76 in the opener, despite his side losing.
Hosts captain Mogab also smashed 107no against the Men in Green the last time the duo nations played at the Rose Bowl in 2010, so he’s a fantastic 5/1 price to lead from the front and get the most runs for his team again.
Wood to be best England bowler
While Mark Wood has be out of action for England this year though injury, he certainly looked back to his best at the recent T20 Blast Finals Day, where he inspired Durham to topple pre-match favourites Yorkshire after a brilliant penultimate over for his side.
Pakistan have never faced Wood in ODIs, so this unpredictability could prove to be a handful for them. Take tasty 7/2 odds for him to be best England bowler.
Hafeez to be top Pakistan batsman
Mohammad Hafeez has certainly enjoyed facing England in the past year, as his two most recent centuries in Tests and ODIs have come against them – both in the 2015 series in the UAE.
His unbeaten 102 in the first ODI back in November gave Pakistan a 1-0 lead, and so he is also 7/2 to top score for them once more.
England to be King of the Crease
Coral are offering a great market for punters to profit from, with odds of 13/8 available on England winning the match, having the highest opening partnership and having the biggest score after 15 overs.
As England have won the last three ODI series’ with Pakistan (they were triumphed last time out at the Rose Bowl), and with Roy and Hales having had previous success in this form of the game against them, this bet certainly looks a great price.
England ODI squad to face Pakistan
Eoin Morgan (Middlesex, captain), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Liam Dawson (Hampshire) Chris Jordan (Sussex), Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire), Liam Plunkett (Yorkshire), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jason Roy (Surrey), Ben Stokes (Durham), Jake Ball (Nottinghamshire), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire), Mark Wood (Durham).
Note that Ball comes in as a replacement for David Willey, who injured his hand playing for Yorkshire in the semi loss to Durham on T20 Blast Finals Day.
