EFL Cup Tips: Five fantastic punts including Luton v Villa and Chris Wood to score first
Robbie Purves | August 9, 2016
English football is back and Coral football writers have picked out some top EFL Cup tips.
The second wave of first round fixtures of the revamped competition gets underway on Wednesday and Thursday, and features headlining fixtures such as Luton Town v Aston Villa, Fleetwood Town taking on Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers matching up against Swindon Town.
So, here are our top five midweek punts…
Bury blast Burton
When it comes to head to heads, Bury have five wins to Burton Albion’s one in this fixture and Coral have them at 16/5 to triumph away at the Pirelli Stadium.
The Shakers boast a 100 per cent record in League One this season and sit joint top of League One. Meanwhile, Burton lost their opening home fixture of this term, letting in a huge four goals.
Expect Bury to dominate attacking proceedings in this encounter in a high-scoring win.
Hatters hit Villa’s hopes
Luton sit top of League One and won their opening fixture 3-0. Meanwhile, Villa started where they left off, losing 1-0 with their defence looking just as shaky as last season.
The Hatters have won 12 out of 16 encounters at home against the Villans, this, combined with the fact that a 1-0 loss was Villa’s most frequent result last season, means a 11/1 on Luton triumphing 1-0 is worth a punt.
Wood fells Fleetwood
Chris Wood has scored an impressive 13 goals in 36 games in his Leeds league career and looks set to net first against Fleetwood at 5/1.
The Fishermen narrowly avoided the drop from League One last term and possessed one of the worst defensive records in the division. Expect Wood to run riot at Highbury Stadium on Wednesday night against Uwe Rosler’s outfit.
QPR sweep aside Swindon
QPR won their opening Championship fixture against Leeds 3-0, and possess superb scoring talent within their ranks. Swindon finished their League One campaign last year with a poor defensive record and Rangers should have no problem sweeping aside the Robins.
The Loftus Road side are 14/1 to triumph 3-0 and hope to take some of their league form into the EFL clash.
Cardiff conquer Rovers
Cardiff City have won their last three encounters against Bristol Rovers, the previous two ending up blowouts at 3-1 and 5-1.
Rovers lost their opening league match of the season 3-1 and are 18/1 to emulate the result against the Welsh outfit.
