Ed Balls is 100-1 with leading bookmaker Coral to win Strictly Come Dancing this year after it was confirmed that the former shadow chancellor will be appearing on the new series of the dancing show. Joe McElderry tops Coral’s early betting at 5-1 to win the 2016 series, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is 6-1 to lift the Glitterball trophy, while Laura Whitmore and Will Young can both be backed at 6-1 to come out on top.

Despite the full list of contestants for 2016 yet to be revealed, Coral make Balls odds-on at 1-2 to be the first contestant voted off the show this year.

“The betting does not give Ed Balls much hope of progressing very far in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing, however, in the year that Leicester won the Premier League, maybe the former shadow chancellor will be the latest surprise package in 2016,” said Coral’s John Hill.
