10 Premier League youngsters set to shine
The new 2016/17 Premier League season looks set to pick up where last term left off, by producing an abundance of drama and excitement and, with a host of new faces having arrived, there are plenty more top-flight plots and storylines to be enjoyed.
Among those will include the intriguing Manchester derbies between coaching rivals Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, but there will also be many youngsters looking to shine in the top tier in what should be a fascinating campaign.
So, with so many talented young players ready to strut their stuff this term, Coral have picked out 10 that could star in the coming months…
Michy Batshuayi
Chelsea endured a disastrous last term when haplessly finishing in 10th position though, under the new guidance of former Italy boss Antonio Conte and some fresh faces arriving, the Blues look capable of bouncing back and are 11/2 with Coral to reign supreme domestically.
Among their acquisitions is €33m capture Batshuayi, with the 22-year-old arriving at Stamford Bridge possessing a promising reputation from his time in Belgium and France.
The Belgium international forward, who has been likened to Chelsea great Didier Drogba, netted 44 times in 120 games for Standard Liege and struck 22 goals for Marseille last term, earning himself a big-money move to London.
Reece Oxford
West Ham United’s teenage sensation Oxford may have only played a handful of league games last season, as well as featuring in the Europa League and FA Cup, but the youngster was the topic of transfer speculation this summer.
Both Manchester giants were heavily linked with the 17-year-old this summer but Slaven Bilic looks to have retained the services of his defensive starlet, for now.
The Londoner is considered one of the hottest prospects in English football and became his club’s youngest ever player last season at 16, when featuring against FC Lusitanos in the Europa League, and he will look to make a greater impact this term.
Viktor Fischer
Middlesbrough’s return to the Premier League kickstarted a summer of impressive summer signings, including the capture of Spanish frontman Alvaro Negredo, but in Denmark attacking midfielder Fischer, the Northeast outfit may have pulled off a potential coup.
The 22-year-old was snapped up from Ajax for a mere €5m this summer, signing a four-year contract at the Riverside, and his dynamic attacking abilities could prove to be vital in the club’s attempts to maintain their top tier stay beyond next term.
Leroy Sane
Germany international Sane may have only earned four caps in his career to date, but that didn’t put off Manchester City forking out a massive £37m to acquire his services this summer, arriving a five-year deal at the Etihad.
The 20-year-old winger showcased his talents in the Bundesliga with Schalke for just two seasons before Guardiola lured him to the Sky Blues, having beaten the likes of Real Madrid to secure one of the most promising forwards in Europe.
Marcus Rashford
New Red Devils boss Mourinho brought Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Old Trafford recently and has admitted skipper Wayne Rooney will not be deployed in midfield, meaning last season’s young gem Rashford may see his time limited this term.
Although, after bagging nine goals earlier this year under Louis van Gaal and earning himself a Euro 2016 for England, the 18-year-old will hope his new mentor will grant him further time to shine at Old Trafford.
Jordon Ibe
Many Liverpool supporters would have been surprised to see promising wideman Ibe depart permanently for Bournemouth in recent weeks, having left Anfield for £15m to Dean Court, but Jurgen Klopp admitted there was a buy-back clause included.
Such a deal may have been a wise move from the Reds, with Eddie Howe’s Cherries possibly set to benefit from the 20-year-old’s traits this season, after showing signs that he could become a genuine talent while previously donning red.
Bartosz Kapustka
Poland international winger Kapustka was one of the shining lights for his country this summer on French soil, with the former Cracovia starlet’s stand-out performance coming in the group victory over Northern Ireland.
The 19-year-old’s dazzling showings earned him plenty of plaudits and it was Premier League champions Leicester City pounced for his signature, and the teenager will be one to watch out for at the King Power Stadium with his eye-catching wingplay.
Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes may see their new wing wizard as a future replacement for star man Riyad Mahrez, who is being heavily linked to top tier rivals Arsenal, but they are 28/1 to retain their crown next May.
Ramadan Sobhi
Mark Hughes has become renowned for his shrewd business in the transfer market in recent years, overseeing the likes of former Barcelona talent Bojan Krkic and Xherdan Shaqiri arriving, and his latest singing Sobhi could prove to be a huge coup too.
The 19-year-old, who can be utilised as an attacking midfielder or in a wide position, will arrive at Stoke City full of promise after previously helping Al Ahly win the Egyptian Premier League title in 2014 and 2016.
Stoke’s new Egypt international talent was also linked with a switch to Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger having reportedly been keen on his services, though Hughes was able to acquire his services for as little as £5m.
Rob Holding
Former Bolton Wanderers defender Holding is one of very few arrivals at the Emirates so far this summer and despite initially looking like one for the future, the 20-year-old could be set for a big part to play this term after injury setbacks.
Arsenal will be without Gabriel for up to eight weeks, while Per Mertesacker is still carrying a knock and Laurent Koscielny is still being rested after helping France reach the Euro 2016 final on home soil.
Such an injury crisis means Holding could be set to feature heavily in the opening fixtures for the Gunners, though he will be confident of impressing after an impressive scoring pre-season outing since sealing his £2m switch from the Trotters.
Vincent Janssen
Potentially saving the best to last here, with Tottenham’s new Dutch hitman Janssen set to take the top-flight by storm after clinically dispatching 30 goals in all competitions for club and country last term when still at AZ Alkmaar.
The 22-year-old frontman was voted the Dutch talent of the year for his heroics last season and has struck three times in five outings for the Netherlands. Mauricio Pochettino will hope his new sharpshooter can forge a formidable partnership with Harry Kane and he is 33/1 to win the Golden Boot.
