It was yet another exciting weekend of sport, with Euro 2016 having its semi-finalists confirmed, Wimbledon witnessing a huge upset and horse racing action taking place at Sandown, among many other thrilling events.

Football
Euro 2016 has its final four nations, after a dramatic set of quarter-final fixtures, with hosts France and Home Nation Wales having starred at the weekend…
Welsh stun Belgium to clinch historic win
Chris Coleman’s Wales rallied to an impressive 3-1 quarter-final victory over Belgium, with the gallant Home Nation setting up a semi-final encounter against Portugal. Radja Nainggolan got the Red Devils off to a great start, but goals from skipper Ashley Williams, Hal Robson-Kanu and Sam Vokes secured a comeback.
Germany edge Italy in shoot-out
World champions Germany booked their semi spot with a 6-5 penalty shoot-out triumph over Italy, following a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes and extra-time. Simone Zaza’s dreadful spot-kick was the worst of a very bad bunch as the Azzurri exited France, with Bastian Schweinsteiger and Graziano Pelle also missing poorly.
France smash five past heroic Iceland
Iceland’s heroic Euro 2016 campaign came to an end as they were thrashed 5-2 by host nation France, with Olivier Giroud bagging a brace, while Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann and Dimitri Payet also got in on the act to reach the semis.

Sandown headlined the weekend’s big racing news, with Hawkbill and Brando taking centre stage with victories in thrilling meetings…
Hawkbill triumphs in Coral-Eclipse thriller
Hawkbill showed real battling qualities to get the better of red-hot favourite The Gurkha in a thrilling renewal of the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown. The Charlie Appleby trained colt is now unbeaten in his last six starts and next month’s Juddmonte International at York or the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown in September are his next possible targets.
Brando takes centre stage in Coral Charge
Trainer Kevin Ryan is aiming Brando at the Nunthorpe Stakes at York following his success in the Group 3 Coral Charge at Sandown. The four-year-old travelled strongly on the bridle throughout and, after quickening clear a furlong out, held on by a short-head from the fast finishing Monsieur Joe.
Light Up Our World shines in Coral Distaff
Light Up Our World sprang a 20/1 surprise when landing the Coral Distaff at Sandown in gutsy fashion. The Richard Hannon trained filly made all and stayed on stoutly to hold off the late challenge of the heavily-backed favourite Wilamina.
Tennis
Wimbledon has already witnessed plenty of upsets so far after reaching the fourth round, following many rain delays…
Djokovic stunned by Querrey
World number one Novak Djokovic’s hopes of earning a calendar year Grand Slam came to an end as he was defeated by American Sam Querrey at Wimbledon, with a 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 7-6 (7-5) result sealing his first loss at a major since the 2015 French Open final.
Williams eases past Beck
Serena Williams continued her bid for a 22nd Grand Slam singles title on Sunday, easily dispatching her third-round opponent Annika Beck with a straight sets (6-3, 6-0) victory.
Formula 1
The Formula 1 season reached the Austrian Grand Prix in the weekend past, and it was Mercedes duo Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton that made the headlines once again…
Hamilton wins in Austria after Rosberg crash
Reigning world champion Hamilton collided with Mercedes teammate Rosberg on the final lap before passing the German to win a thrilling Austrian GP. The British driver tried to pass Rosberg but ended up crashing, though it was the latter that was given a 10-second penalty and two licence penalty points by stewards for causing a collision.
