Sharaakah has plenty going for her in Coral Distaff

Sharaakah ran a blinder on seasonal reappearance and looks the answer to a wide-open renewal of the Listed 1m Coral Distaff on a superb card at Sandown (15:10).

Race horse trainer ED DUNLOP.

The Ed Dunlop trained filly showed progressive form as a juvenile, winning a maiden at Newmarket before going on to chase home the very useful Nemoralia in a competitive 19-runner handicap at York.

Sharaakah was also far from disgraced on her final start of 2015 when staying on to finish a never nearer 5 1/2 length seventh of 12 to First Victory in the Group 3 Oh So Shap Stakes at Newmarket, and its was a run which suggested she may well have more to offer as a three-year-old.

That view was confirmed when the daughter of Roderic O’Connor finished a fine third of 21 to Persuasive in the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot last month.

Terrific effort after lengthy lay-off

After being held-up in mid-division, Sharaakah made good headway to throw down a strong challenge to the eventual winner inside the final furlong before weakening close home to be beaten just 1 1/4 lengths.

It was a terrific effort on her first start for 250 days, and Sharaakah looks sure to come on a bundle for it.

She also has nothing to fear from the re-opposing Make fast and Light Up My World, who finished seventh and eighth in that contest, and this looks a nice opportunity for Sharaakah to secure a valuable prize.

Wilamina not to be underestimated

Snow Moon is sure to be popular with Frankie Dettori in the saddle, but she looked disappointing and a tricky ride when only third last time out at Newbury.

For those reasons, it may be wiser to oppose this horse, but one that could be the fly in the ointment and feared most is the lightly-raced Wilamina.

WILAMINA with F Sweeney wins Maiden stakes Div 2 at Newmarket 18-6-16.

The Martyn Meade trained filly has only had two starts, and after a highly promising debut run when second at Goodwood opened her account in style in an 11-runner maiden at Newmarket.

Smart turn of foot

Wilamina made all and after quickening smartly two from home stayed on strongly to draw clear inside the final furlong to score readily by 3 1/2 lengths.

Although what she beat is questionable, the manner of the victory suggested the daughter of Zoffany had a big engine and needed keeping firmly.

The does represent a big step up in class, but Wilamina is open to any amount of improvement and Meade is shrewd handler who doesn’t go tilting at windmills with his inmates.

Coral’s top tip: Sharaakah has some top-class form to her name and looks worth a wager to land a wide-open renewal of the Coral Distaff. Wilamina could be anything and rates the main danger.
