Premier League clubs’ pre-seasons are now well underway, allowing England’s top-flight tacticians to analyse just what they need in the transfer market. This Sunday morning’s tabloids are subsequently stuffed full of sensational weekend gossip, so read on in Coral’s rumour reel for all the latest on James Rodriguez to West Ham United and more…

Hammers honing in on James swoop?

Few pundits would have seen this one coming – although West Ham have been making waves this off-season, linked to several ambitious attacking transfers as they attempt to land a marquee signing to celebrate their switch to the Olympic Stadium.

Having supposedly tried for Alexandre Lacazette and Carlos Bacca, the Irons are now said to be sniffing around Colombia superstar and Real Madrid playmaker Rodriguez.

The 25-year-old, previously tipped to join one of Chelsea, PSG or Manchester United, would be a major coup for the Hammers, though Spanish giants Real are said to be demanding around £67m in any Rodriguez raid.

Whether West Ham could stump up that kind of cash for one star remains to be seen, as does Rodriguez clamouring to play in claret and blue.

Stranger things have happened, but Madrid media mouthpiece Marca’s peddling of the gossip mean it might be best to take it with a pinch of salt amid suspicions of forcing bigger clubs to cough up.

Chelsea turn attention to Mahrez move

While, sticking with English capital clubs set to loosen their purse strings, rumour has it Antonio Conte’s Chelsea revolution will continue with the Blues returning to further ransack the King Power Stadium, having already captured Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante.

The Foxes may now have to brace themselves for another visit by the Blues, with wing magician Riyad Mahrez set to be the Stamford Bridge side’s next target.

Mahrez, 25, scored 17 times in the Premier League last term to help Leicester take Chelsea’s title, and the prospect of the Algeria international pairing up with an in-form Eden Hazard would surely make Conte’s new club favourites to lift silverware across the board this season.

Tadic twist in Man City Sane deal, Bony Everton-bound?

Elsewhere, Manchester City’s interest in Schalke teenager Leroy Sane could have unfortunate consequences for Southampton. The Gelsenkirchen club are believed to be targeting Dusan Tadic as an adaptable attacking midfield replacement and would have funds to spend if they offload the £40m rated starlet.

Saints have already seen midfielder Victor Wanyama depart the south coast this summer, and look set for another nervy off-season regarding the future of star players. Tricky Tadic has proven a top assist provider since his switch to the English south coast, clocking up 23 in 77 appearances.

Meanwhile, in more Man City business, new Everton coach Ronald Koeman is thought to be haggling with the Sky Blues over sought-after centre back John Stones.

With a mooted £50m deal on the cards, canny Koeman is said to be seeking the inclusion of out-of-favour forward Wilfried Bony in any package for the England international.
