Luke Morris thinks this filly will show her speed at Newcastle this weekend…

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

The King George normally marks about halfway through the season and I hope the second half of the year goes as well as the first, starting with some winners this weekend and at Goodwood next week.

As I said last week, it’s important to try and ride good winners as well to go get my first Royal Ascot winner was a major plus, while Mrs Danvers winning the Super Sprint last week was fantastic too. She’s a smart filly and well capable of winning black type.

My Royal Ascot win came on Prince Of Lir in the Norfolk Stakes and I’m very excited to be back riding him in the Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte on Sunday. The five-and-a-half furlong trip will be ideal for him and he doesn’t carry a penalty for his Ascot win, which is a plus. I think he’s got a great chance of adding this to his Norfolk Stakes win.

Newcastle

After that I’ll be looking forward to Glorious Goodwood and make sure you read my blog for every day of the meeting next week. However, before that I’ve got a competitive book of rides at Newcastle on Saturday which could provide me with some success.

1.50 Newcastle – Kelpie Spirit
There are already horses with form and experience in this race and that counts for a lot with two-year-olds. He’s trained by John Weymes and his horses tend to need their first run so you’d imagine it’d be a learning curve for him and he’d be one to watch for other days.

2.20 Newcastle – Cocoa Beach
I’ve been riding her in a lot of her work at home and that work has been very pleasing. She’s a filly that I hope will be rated much higher at the end of the year than she is now. I hope this can be another step forward in her progression and that she can make the long trip worthwhile. She drops back to six furlongs for this as we didn’t think she quite stayed seven last time, and she’s been showing plenty of speed in her work.

2.55 Newcastle – Barracuda Boy
RACING

On Northumberland Plate day in the sprint races it seemed to pay to race towards the far side so being drawn in stall one looks to be the ideal spot. He’s up to seven furlongs and he has to prove he stays, but he’s dropped down the handicap and is on a good mark now. Hopefully we can race up on the front end and take some beating.

3.30 Newcastle – Desktop
This is the first time I’ve ridden for trainer Anthony Brittain so I’m looking forward to that. This horse won a couple of starts back so if he can reproduce something like that he would be in with a chance in what’s not the strongest of races.

4.40 Newcastle – Dream Ally
The drop back to five furlongs shouldn’t be a problem as it’s a stiff five at Newcastle. He ran very well the last day and probably just got there a bit too soon and pulled himself up in front. Culloden looks the horse to beat, but we’ll try and take a nice lead off him and pounce late.

Cheers,
Luke
