Eden The Kid to turn on the style in Select Stakes
The Select Stakes (21:08) is the feature race on a stellar evening of Open action at Nottingham tonight screened live on Sky Sports 1, and Eden The Kid can make his class tell to land the spoils.
Rab McNair’s son of Westmead Hawk has won four of his six starts at the track, and they include a runaway 4 3/4 length success in the final of the British Breeders Stakes.
He warmed up for this with a smooth success over course and distance when he overcame crowding at the first bend before powering home to beat Making Paper by two lengths.
Although not ideally drawn between that rival in Trap 1 and the pacy Droopys Buick in Trap 3, Eden The Kid has great track craft and can hold his pitch at the bend before exploding into action in the middle part of the race.
Padre worth a punt
T3 Sidarian Padre has a good record at the track and can get the better of Newinn Shadow to further enhance it with victory in the Puppy Trophy (19.26).
Charlie Lister’s dog has built up an impressive profile and is three from five at the venue. He is also 1-1 from the white jacket at it and is blessed with bags of early speed.
A reproduction of his 4.03 split when winning over course and distance in a time of 28.59 two starts back should be more than good enough to see him clear Trap 2 and lead at the first, and his track knowledge is a huge plus in this line-up.
Ballybee Brewery drawn to attack
In the Sprint Trophy (20:16), T5 Ballybee Brewery can take advantage of what looks a good draw to get back to winning ways.
The son of Cashen Pedro has won two of his five starts at the venue, and one of those has come from the orange jacket.
Although he has suffered some costly defeats of late, Ballybee Brewery is a tough nut to peg back when timing it right at the lids and with Traps 1, 2 and 3 all wanting the rail there is a distinct possibility of crowding on the inside which would give him every chance of leading at the bend.
Bullet worth a shot in Select Stayers
In the Select Stayers Stakes (20:51), T2 Billys Bullet looks value to lower the colours of red-hot favourite Roxholme Magic.
The Mark Wallis trained son of Ace Hi Rumble has been a terrific servant and overcame serious injury to win the final of this year’s Coral Regency at Hove back in May.
He has held his form well since then, and moved well in a recent trial over course and distance when clocking an 18.60 sectional.
Billys Bullet has every chance of leading up judged on that effort, and with Roxholme Magic dropping back markedly in trip can cut loose and open up a big enough lead to fend off that rival’s power-packed finish.
