Robbie Neilson’s Hearts come into the clash on the back of a 6-3 aggregate win over Infonet in their last round of the Europa League qualifiers.
The Edinburgh side have won three of their last five games and the last two by as many goals, and Coral have Hearts 7/1 to triumph over Maltese outfit Birkirkara.
Neilson’s impressive side finished third in the Scottish Premiership last season after being promoted, and will be hoping to push Celtic for the title this coming campaign. Hearts looked free-flowing in attack in their recent games, boasting Conor Sammon and the deadly Juanma, who scored 13 last year, leading the line, with Sam Nicholson buzzing around in dangerous fashion.
Hearts to hit heights
Hearts are undefeated in their last five outings and were notoriously hard to beat last season. Their aggressive style may shock Birkirkara and prove too much to handle for a team with just one win in their last five games.
Maltese football’s coefficient is still below that of the Faroe Islands and the standard is poor, even compared to that of the SPFL. However, Hearts dare not join the list of embarrassing Euro results after Celtic’s loss to Gibraltarian club Lincoln Red Imps, and possess the quality to see them overcome Birkirkara with ease.
Speaking on the prospect of facing the Maltese outfit, Jambos manager Neilson said: “They are hard to break down and like to play on the counter-attack… they’ll defend and try and get a 1-0 or a 2-0. We’ll try to win the game but we have to negate their tactics. We have to be very careful.”
Neilson’s side possesses pace, power and strength that took the Scottish League by storm last term and will surely have enough to surpass Paul Zammit’s side.
