Jamie Spencer is bullish Dragon Mall can give him a winner at Newbury

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

My opening ride of the day is on Mr Lupton is the Group Three Hackwood Stakes at 3.35pm at Newbury. He won a big field handicap at York two starts back. He then ran at Newcastle on the Tapeta but he did not like the surface. It was very dead and sticky that day so he could not pick up. He’s back on turf and hopefully he will get a run. He looks to be a good each-way chance. Obviously the two horses we have to beat are The Tin Man and Charming Thought. A strong pace in the race will certainly improve my horse’s chances.

In the Super Sprint at 4.10pm, I’m on board Perfect Madge for Kevin Ryan. She ran well on her debut over five furlongs at Newmarket where she finished second. There was not much wrong with her next run at York either where she finished in the placings once again. She was up in class at Ascot last time out in a Group Three where she struggled a little. She is back down to to five furlongs and if the race runs to suit, she could be thereabouts.

At 4.45pm I’m ride Dragon Mall who ran well on his first start of the season at Newmarket. He’s getting seven pounds from the older horses here. The form of that run at Newmarket has been franked. He looks to have a great chance. Hopefully he gets a decent pace otherwise he can get quite keen if the pace is steady.

‎Finally at Newbury, I partner Heatstroke in the 5.15pm. He’s a full brother to The Corsican and Deauville who I know very well. He had an injury last year so he’s a bit of a work in progress. He was disappointing last time out but hopefully he can bounce back and give a good account of himself.

Obviously I have no ride in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh. I think Even Song will take all of the beating in the race though. The ground is in her favour. She ran well at Ascot and Aidan has trained her for the race. The rest of the field will have to find a lot of improvement to beat her.
